Originally by: Malcanis On a side note, it is amusing to note that the Star Trek MMO publishers are offering life time subs before the game has even launched.
Don't know where you heard that from. The deal was that if you bought a lifetime sub for their other mmo "Champions Online" you will recieve access to the closed beta of "StarTrek Online" plus recieve a mirror universe costume for your character.
To quote a post from their forums yesterday.
Quote: Currently, no life-time subscriptions are being offered for STO. Therefore, the only way is, once the game is released, sign up for a standard subscription (monthly, yearly, whatever), and then never cancel it, and remember to pay your credit card bill.
Life-time subscriptions deals were offered for Champions Online, so it is at least possible that the same will occur for STO, but there have been no announcements as of yet.

It would be nice if the Lifetime membership fee had a base cost of 10x Years of fees, less any fees you have allready paid.
I'd be quite happy with that

Ah, I was misinformed then. I retract my comment.

If the player in the LOTRO lifetime demographic is on average subscribed for 18 months, thus roughly $180, it makes sense to sell lifetime subscriptions at $199. It also allows you to publish subcriber numbers with "active" accounts, where a ton of lifetimers haven't been logged into for ages.
Extrapolating to EVE: Say an EVE player in the same demographic is subscribed on average for 24 months, thus roughly $360, a lifetime membership would have to cost $380 to $400. The most likely people to buy it at this price point would be the ones who would stay subscribed for years anyway, thus turning it into a loss for CCP.

Eve's skill system tends to lend itself to keeping an active sub when you don't/only log once a week.
Lotro, you stop paying when you're bored and lvl'd up.

Lifetime subscripiton would be bad imo as per the facts everyone who's against it stated. But also because you would take away/change aspects in the market as plex's wouldn't interest those with lifetime sub's. Not that it's a big deal to myself, but, how some people would lose on selling plex's if everyone had a lifetime sub.

It has been out for less than 3 years and has expansion you have to pay for. From what I've heard it is one of the better PvE MMOs currently out there. Also, having to pay for the expansions means even lifetime subscribers will continue contributing something. The expansion model in EVE doesn't allow for that, but has the benefit of making the financial entry barrier low and easy.
