If you saw that silly Starwars thing in that then really, you missed out on the solar sail idea. I love the concept and would KILL to have a BS size version of it, possibly without a warp drive but being at least decently fast (0.1-0.5 AU/s?) with "normal" propulsion (with a very slow acceleration).

Hmmm, isnt this "design" just a little outdated for New Eden. This is the sort of stuff being theorized today in the real world, surely this antiquated design is about 20,000 years late for EVE?
But cool looking ship nonetheless!

Also, please everyone try to keep this on the low down. The less people know about this and redeem their ship, the more valuable ours become. -omg-

Theorized? They've been using solar on everything from satellites to probes for about 25 years already, and it'll continue being done, only with better solar cells, because it can't be topped for powering things in space.
What's scary, is there was a time before solar as the norm when everyone was using Uranium to power satellites, and at least half of the ones orbitting Earth (400-500) have a few kilos of very radioactive Uranium on board. If they ever lose orbit and burn up in the atmosphere, they'll shower large parts of the planet with isotopes. Good times.

Obviously it resembles both which means our fellow nerds at ccp had a pizza and prequel party in iceland and watched Starwars episode 1-3....cant wait for next year when they watch the new star trek movie and we are all flying romulan mining ships that eat planets ....

LOL @ the whiners
CCP: Here's something new, free, different and only available this year are a thank you! Whiner: Don't want, it's crap. CCP: Err.. Whiner: It probably brakes easy, can's solo a 10/10 plex, DD a small fleet, can't be consta-cloaked, smell funny, looks crap and I didn't ask for it. Stupid waste of time, should have spent the time fixing bugs. Plus I don't scan your sill WH's
Well, thankies CCP, you didn't have to do anything, yet you give us a new, limited addition ship. I look forward to faffing with it

The MCP wants it's solar sail simulator back that the Bajorans allowed CCP to appropriate. When somebody pushes the MCP, the MCP pushes back. Unless the MCP gets the simulator returned the Devs at CCP are going to be put on the game grid.

Well, Solar Sail's were first theorized in the 20's, so it's not really something people are just now coming up with, it's an old concept.
I was kind of going off on a rant about satellites, but the solar sail/solar propulsion concept has been used on a large amount of probes already as a secondary form of thrust. The solar panels themselves act as solar sails, because any propulsion is just from light particles hitting a surface and as far back as the early 90's they've been using that method to preserve propellant. You're still going to see it used thousands of years into the future because it just makes sense.

A "solar sail" has more in common with the sail on a yacht than a solar panel, fool.

A ship powered by the energy from the solar winds...? Geez, I appreciate the thought and the purpose of the Zephyr (to encourage wormhole exploration,) but CCP really needs a little more science in their science fiction.

It is outdated for Eve, but that's sort of the point. Its simple compact design with very little mass makes it perfect for Wh exploration, no engines means less mass. It also means sleepers can't target it.

It's beyond outdated. It's impractical. Light has mass. A solar sail ship uses *light* pressure to accelerate. As in, take a flashlight, shine it at an object and you expect the object to move because photons are hitting the object. It's not a terribly fast way to travel since it requires long periods of time to build up velocity. And the further from the system's star, the less solar wind there is.

Hey, just a thought, considering I've seen it quoted that even a shuttle can have crew ("OH GOD HE MENTIONED CREW, ABANDON THREAD") could this possibly be the first ship to be canonically crewed solely by the pod pilot? ______________________________________________
