It crashes every time. (punny I know but I'm not joking)
They don't use proper logging... they use some obscure pos windows logging crap in some hidden directory that most mac users don't have patience to locate.... as opposed to using Apple's Console logging system (or syslogd for that matter).
For the longest time I had a very stable and well working client... in apochrapha.
Now its crap... well its better... but I don't trust it.
I've never had to hard shut down my mac book pro thanks to a "hang" until recently... that upsets me greatly.
It's running hotter than it was before.... this really ticks me off.
IMHO they need to stop dinking around with the windows garbage and directX trash... and go mac native. It will be cleaner... better.. stronger.
That or strip the cider engine out and go back to basics... the WINE users have an easier time... why is it so stupid over here?
Yes Its a bit brash... I appreciate what they are doing... but it's going pear shaped over here and I don't like resorting to my windows tower all the time.
And telling me to file a bug report is adding insult to injury.
PS: And even tho I'm capable of updating to snow leopard... I'm rather busy and I'd hate to stop everything for one piece of software that dev's refuse to do a proper job on.
Specs: First Gen 15" Aluminum Macbook Pro (Teir 3 "As good as it gets") 10.5.8 SMC Fan Controls running at full tilt. Heat Abosrbtion Pad Minmal Load Extra GPU is NOT engaged
Biggest annoyance - Extra heat build up and random hard lock ups to the system or stupid disconnection cascade failures.
What the #### happened? Who did you replace? I want the old guy back. ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

First off.... as someone said... "it took 6 weeks"
That IS the problem... nice of you to realize why we are complaining.
this isn't your usual whine.... this is a rational.... yes we are smart enough to fix it... make it work... but FFS!!!
And Juliet.... what the hell do you think Cider is really?
Are you that dense? That Blind?
It's wine! Duh! One of many variants... so I don't hardly think it would be that hard for them to try a different engine....
We shouldn't have to know how to use terminal and kick in the switches and do this and do that... it should already be logging just by flipping a check box or a switch.
Every other respectable application on the Mac OS-X platform does... why the heck not EVE online?!
The bulk of the Mac Population today are likely windows users who have converted over... or still are Windows users.
I know.. I sell these things.. I fix them... I repair them... I support these people in my own workplace.
As a Professional Apple Tech I happen to know a great deal about the Macintosh.. alot of which I hate... and a lot I really like.
So for someone like you.... to start ranting at me and telling me like it is.. is quite humorous needless to say.
I'm sick and tired of this cultural-ism of "make the user do all the work and beta test for us" crap.
These people are frustrated and tired because they where told it would be cooler.... easier.... better... to do it on a Mac... and all I've seen is a startling increase in frustration and failures as of lately... and only us seasoned mac users tolerate it.
So yeah... I'd like to have one little whine thank you very much.
There is a difference in releasing a product and having "some bugs".
And releasing an untested product that has numerous bugs across many platforms is not what I call a smart move.
good example - iTunes.
There's some really serious problems there that alot of people aren't aware of... but I see them every day and have to nod and grin... its BS... I know it... they know it... but the bulk of users don't.
I'm not just throwing rotten vegetables and threatening to go emo-rage-quit.
This isn't about me... it's about a very awesome game that could work wonders.
But if everyone is going to resort to running VmWare's Fusion or Parallels or _____ instead of the Mac client... then there's a serious problem here.
Yeah... CCP may not do anything... but I'm tired of lying to myself.
All I see is workarounds and patches and translations. I can name 5 to 10 people who use WINE or variant there of and have an easier time than I do on my Mac.... and they only suffer the windows glitches I see on my windows tower.
Yes... it's working... its OK... but it's not as good as it was before! If I have to update to Snow Leopard just to make it work then I may do that. But I have a feeling it will only improve my situation just a little.
What the heck happened back there? Apoc was just fine until this crap started.
With all due respect.... I feel like we took 2 steps backwards... and not 1 (if not one half step) forward.
I'm not about to give up either... but I'm not some stupid drone either. ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

hate to tell you this bub, but there will never, ever be a native Mac client. They won't drop the directX trash. Know why? Because the majority, as in more than 90% of the players use Windows. Converting from DirectX to OpenGL would require a complete, not a partial, a complete and total rewrite of the game. So good luck with whining. We will have EVE running inside of Cider for the duration of EVE. There is no way around it. Don't like it, run it in Bootcamp, run it in VMware (which works fine too). Don't like it still? Go play something else. Mac users will be the minority, and regardless of our love for EVE and our Mac's, that's how it is.
Thank you for ignoring my posts and not reading them... great job. (thumbs up)
My point is it should never been this difficult... If I can run and launch any other application on my mac with little to no trouble then why cant we have the same with EVE Online?
Will it happen? No... but when they release Dominion and suddenly things go stupid.. you kinda have to wonder just how much testing effort they are putting into the mac client.
Thankfully its gotten a little better since the last 2 patches... but the temps (heat) are running higher than they have ever before and that really bugs the hell out of me (Average of 70 to 80C WITH fans at max)
I don't play EVE on my mac as much as I used to because I'm worried the damn thing will fry it with prolonged heat damage. (And don't even give me that crap about "it can handle it" I got pictures to prove you wrong!)
You people can nay-say and call us a bunch of losers... fact is... its a valid request...and while it may not happen... I can clearly tell you that the industry is changing.... the Mac Population is climbing... they have over 25% of the market... people are getting fed up with virus infections... I've sold more Mac's in the last 3 months than I have in the 2 years I've worked at my job... and that says something. we shouldn't have to resort to running windows to enjoy this great game.... its a pain in the @$$.
If Blizzard can do this.. why can't CCP?
Yes Blizzard got the jump on it by prepping first... but they had to start somewhere didn't they?
With all the time put into EVE... You'd think it would take just as much effort for them to engineer CIDER to the same amount of work.
So yes... keep coming up with excuses... keep throwing overused answers back... the problem won't go away either way.
And again... I appreciate what CCP is doing.... but It's times like these I can't help but wonder why its so bloody inconsistent.
So while I'm not going to quit... I believe I'm deserving of being a little upset here.
