Will they recover?
And I guess the extension of this question is, how does one determine how the mineral market moves? (Factors of market activity)

Hard to guess. I think CCP overcompensated for operation Unholy Rage with the Veldspar changes. Who knows what they will do next, or what wars will start.
Akita T. has several posts worth reading on the mineral basket, so look for those using EVE-Search. Watch what Block Ukx is investing in too. Oh, and of course watch the markets closely yourself.

Imo, it was needed after they removed the shuttle trit became a major bottleneck, not because people weren't trying to supply it, but simply because it was not available.

I never really paid much attention to the economy in my newb days (Right click -> Sell ore) It's got my attention though now. I never really thought that holding onto my ore now could net me more profit later if it goes up in value.

Taken from the memory of an early 2k4 player.
This is what the mineral market looked like when I started in May of 2k4.

I think the answer is when will it drop again not recover.
Right now I know many, many, many people are suiciding Battleships daily, building new ones, and so forth and so on. Meaning tons of Trit is being bought up daily for nothing but suiciding ships. Soon as the price rises people will stop this, and then the prices will crash again.
As much as I hate to say it, mineral market may not be the place to be in right now.

you could try to organize miners and fix prices...but that wouldn't help much if it were even possible, or finance a giant wave of hisec suicide attacks on mining vessels, but with multiple sources for minerals i doubt you would effect prices much

Seeing as how Trit Prices have been halved by increasing Asteroid Spawn I think that Mining alone is clearly a huge part of Empire Trit production.

Sept 04
Trit 0.85 ISK Pyerite 2 ISK Mexallon 7 ISK (pre battlecruisers/freighters/caps etc it was hardly used) Isogen 110 ISK (Omber was king) Nocx 350 ISK Zyd ~4000 ISK Mega ~6000 ISK Morphite ~15000 ISK
Zyd/Nocx are really quite undervalued, and Trit / Pyerite still overvalued a little. The effect of this of course is that Jaspet/Hemorphite etc which are supposed to be good ores are hopeless, making lowsec / bad 0.0 worst belt mining than highsec. Nocx really crashed when the drone regions were introduced and has never recovered, Zyd also.
