Instead of the dull usual yellow light blasting out of your engines that signifies from 1 m/s to 12 AU/s, why not spread it around some.. Signify light blue flame as MicroWarpDrive, while heavy blue flames as actual warp itself. Possibly even extending the flames a bit extra on warp entry. Additionally, putting a white streak line (aerodynamics) on the sides of your ship as long as your over 1km/s and using MWD would be nice although needs to be carefully applied. If you can manage please keep the transactions (first lowers to barely any flame then bursts out) between speeds. Now for performance, I suggest putting this in for max detail and not for all as to reduce player computer requirements. Thanks, Bez (Editing pictures to add currently)

Up to this point, this was a good non-troll post. Past this, I give you 1/10. Really, aerodynamics? In my vacuum?
Seriously though, warp doesn't really use the ships engines, warp cores produce warp fields. That said I wouldn't mind blue engine flames on my vagabond when MWD is on... ---

Edited by: Zeb DaMadMiner on 16/12/2009 21:16:50 Who said that warp core can't give out blue flames, while regular gives out yellow? or that it is all ran by engines? (also implies that microwarpdrive is miniature version of warp) Not trying to bash you just stating the facts and my expression on the topic although now that I think of it, the white streaks was a bit to far.

Edited by: Ti''anla on 03/01/2010 00:31:09 In the past, ships had a listing for the type of drive they ran on, and that influenced the colour of their engines I believe. Those engine colours are still around, and hints as to the characteristics of your ship.
That aside, this seems an interesting idea, but you seem to be forgetting how warp engines actually work. They displays your ship, meaning the visually effect would logically be much more akin to a shimmer around your ship (but then that's what I always interpreted the current warp effect to be - the bubble of displacement created by your warp drive with you sat in the middle of it, rolling through space.
So.. nah, I'd be against this one I think.

Warp effects aren't that great except the little web like surroundings. The ship's booster should be more enhanced to show a clearer difference.
Since warping is much faster than the speed of light, shouldn't everything be black? I'm not asking everything to be black (because that would be lame to see), but rather blurred and maybe tinted black.
Cheers for visual enhancements!

I want Titan AE style warp entries: Energy buildup behind your ship, a white light ,and "WHOOSH", you are in warp.

Some more eye candy there would be cool, but why would it come from the engines? Warp cores don't work by shooting matter out the jets and propelling the ship like that, do they? I'd rather see the engines essentially turn off, and some kind of efects-layer thing wrap around your ship, like it's encased in a hyperspace field as it slips through the warp tunnel.
A similar effect for MWD would be neat, too, just a little weird distortion around the whole ship.
