Gallente The Aduro Protocol

When I speak, I typically try to speak using full words and try to cut down on abbreviations and shortenings whenever possible. I try to avoid contractions and try to convey words in a way as easily as possible in as intelligible a way as I can.
With the advent of Amarr Navy items being renamed Imperial Navy and Gallente Navy renamed to Federation Navy, each of the new names has taken on extra syllables. Amarr Navy items just gained two syllables (Am-arr vs Im-pe-ri-al and Ga-llen-te vs Fe-der-a-tion).
In the case of the Gallente one, it technically lost two syllables (from Gallente to Fed), but the Amarr Navy suffers. You can't really shorten up Imperial (Imp) without it sounding kinda silly. If somebody is calling them Imp Navy though, haha well then that amuses me.
At any rate, Imperial Navy just seems off. I keep calling Amarr Navy items Amarr Navy, probably because it rolls off the tongue better. Imperial Navy items also feel much harsher and more awkward than Amarr Navy. I mean why are they Imperial? For example, the rare Imperial Navy Apocalypse was an Imperial Issue item, not an Amarr Navy item. Same with the Navy Mega.. it's still a Megathron Navy Issue, not a Megathron Federation Issue because due to naming conventions a Megathron Federate Issue already exists. That means the naming conventions have now been bent backwards to say that the state is issuing the faction items instead of the navies themselves, which in my opinion is incorrect.
So, what are we left with? More syllables and tongue-tied players xD

Yesh.
CCP weren't Satisfied that Dominion was going to be a complete and total pain bugs and and problems wise.
So they renamed all the Gallente and Amarr stuff to Federation and Imperial for the abolute hell of it to screw up all the killboards, numerous third party programs and everyones memories that much more.
I have no idea what the point was, now the stuff will just get confused with the super rare Federate Issue and Imperial Issue Battleships.
But that's CCP for you.
If I had to guess I'd say it was a marketing move to appeal to the World of Warcraft audience, "Wow these ship names sound so cool, Imperial and Federation, like ships out of Star Wars".

GalFed [stuff] ImpNav [stuff] or just Amarr (whatever) Republic or just 'Fleet' [stuff] Navy (as in Caldari) [stuff]
People are already coining terms like Fedathron (Federation Megathron), Imp Geddon (Imperial Navy Armageddon), ect ect.

Personally I shorten all the naval prefixes as follows:
Navy Abbrev. Example Gallente (or Federation) Navy GN GN Comet Minmater (Republic) Navy MN MN Firetail Amarr (Imperial) Navy AN AN Slicer Caldari (State) Navy CN CN Raven
I stick to this regardless of what changes CCP makes.

I'm too used to the AN/GN abbreviations for amarr and gallente modules, so I'm just going to keep using them when talking about stuff.
Kind of annoying having to remember the new stuff when doing stuff in EFT or Looking stuff up on contracts tho. |

Well, just all it amarr navy anyway. I'm pretty sure most people, bar some rookies who just joined the game yesterday, would understand what you mean.

I take it you are 14 years old, cause you think that making jokes about the sexual activites of someone you don't know is funny.

Fixed. Most people I've met use Republic Fleet, but I'm just nitpicking.

Edited by: Tae Ren on 17/12/2009 21:58:51 Fed Navy...there, was that hard?
[Fed Navy Magstab]
In fact it is better than before, I have had people pronouncing Gallente as Gallante Navy for ages, damn was that annoying.
Amarr are the only ones who have been hurt by this injustice. I still think Imperial is a much better name, but only on paper as its hard to shorten...
I sometimes call them the Imp navy, but for obvious reasons that doesn't sound at all impressive.
On a related note, I have sold several dozen Imperial Navy Heatsinks for 75m and Fed Navy Magstabs for 80m when the patch just came out, mostly because of people like you who are unable to function with two faction name changes.
God I fear the day when the Caldari Navy becomes State Navy/Issue Items
