In a month or so Im going to take up a career in logistics so I wanted to enquire as to the average charge per jump when moving a customers cargo. Also I wanted to know if having price per jump fluctuate depending on the security of the system would be a good idea. (say the price gos up 100k if its a 0.5 system or something along those lines)
Also I want to enquire about the likelyness of MD investors investing in my venture (specificly purchasing the ship and covering the startup collateral for the first few shipments) I do realize this would depend on my reputation in the forum and the business plan I lay out so any tips on how to go about geting investors for this are welcome.

The competative price seems to be 200k per jump atm to beat out Red Frogs rates. I would not suggest increasing the price based on security systems. Just dont haul 1.5b+.
Most heavy builders here already have logistics in motion. I'm afraid you won't find many investors looking to back you up in the lucrative world of freighting. You might have better luck joining up with Red Frog and seeing what they have to offer. Maybe they can even rent out a freighter to you or something. I have no idea how they run but they are a freighting corp... you are wanting to get into freighting... so on. -----------------------------

I have to wonder if this inquiry comes out of Katiana's recently successful IPO filled and if this is copycat/scam work. I only mention so because copycats seem plentiful.
Based on the premise that you are legit, I'll note you this one: Her bond only filled, I think, because we like that player. He's been around for a while, had another successful IPO to fund her missioning ship. Katiana seems like an upstanding guy. Most in the thread didn't seem to think the bond/IPO for a freighter thing was necessarily a good idea. It filled because we like Katiana and want to see her successful in his endeavors. I think if someone else were to move forward on a similar/same idea there would be a lack of interest/investment. But maybe that's just me.
P.S. Knowing the correct pronouns to use for a female character that is backed by a guy gets confusing at times.

Im not trying to scam anyone I was just inquiring about it before I actually bought the freighter skill book.

If you have a need for a freighter, buy it and make some isk on the side.
If you want to role play internet space trucker, by all means go for it.
If you think you're going to earn money doing this as a primary thing? You won't.

I usually refer to the character or something that the character owns using her. If its something about the player, like a characteristic, than his.
So we invested in her bond because we liked him. -----------------------------

But considering the amount of money available from each jump it seems quite lucrative (and I have had quite an interest in freighters since I first began playing)

You'd need to make ~3500 jumps to make back the cost of the freighter, let alone the skill book.
Freighters are sloooooooow.

Average price per jump is around 100K and up in a high security space and going to 300K per jump to lower sec space last time i checked.

You can make much more ISK in a freighter by hauling stuff to/from/between trade hubs.
My best to date is about 525 million profit for 2 jumps.
Ore is one of my favorites too, since you can buy a shipload of it really cheap say 11 jumps away from a market, refine it, then haul the minerals to market.
The biggest obstacle in this is that you need lots of capital to be able to fill the freighter in the first place.

Posting in a thread where I am listed as both a He and She many times.
For the record: I am a He, playing behind a She
I usually call people based on their character gender. I think that Katiana Swan chick is hot, in an electronic space-hentai kind of way.

Confirming that red headed stepchildrens like me are the chiz.
To return to the OP:
1) You could have poured in the effort at searching for one of the identical 10000000000 posts made before yours.
2) Expect a revenue similar to L2-L3 missioning if you are bad, more if you know where to go get the runs (i.e. not at Jita and similar).
3) Expect to have to have 2-3 billions ready for collateral for mediocre returns expecially if you sheep your way in main trade hubs. But if you don't want the freighter popped (even in high sec) you won't carry more than 2B.
Why need 3B when you carry 2? Because that billion is the one that will make your earn above L3 missions by using it appropriately (no I won't tell how ).
4) Expect to gain *little* until you figure out why running around all day long does not net you enough.

Edited by: RJ Nobel on 18/12/2009 09:01:39 All of this has been said already, but I'm a sucker for repitition:
Expect a max of 10m/hr as a professional hauler.
10m/hr, while requiring an investment of 2 billion (700m freighter, 1b collateral, at least 300m in skills and training time) is among the worst isk/hr ratios in all of Eve.
Trading goods moved via freighter can be very profitable. As in, hundreds of millions of ISK per hour.
If you're set on buying a freighter, don't focus on the space-trucker part. Focus on the trade aspect. You'll make a heck of a lot more money moving your own goods between markets than you will moving other people's goods for a pittance wage.
EDIT: Feel free to /honk when you see a N-R-D freighter.

I wasn't actually calling you a scammer, just pointing out the possibility. It's a pattern that we see copycat scammers whenever a bond/IPO launches, at least in the short 3 months I've been paying attention.
Hence the rest of my post directed towards an honest player.

Looks like you've made a decision, but I'll just put in my two cents anyway.
Red Frog Freight charges 500k + (350k * #jumps) + (350k * # extra stations). The extra stations are those other than the pickup and drop off stations.
If you're still interested in freighting, I hope you'll consider joining Red Frog. We're very independent pilots, and we get ALL of the contract money (RF doesn't actually make money, the pilots do). Most, if not all, of our pilots are also traders. Whatever you decide to do, RF wishes you good luck! |

Originally by: Douglas Adams The major problem is quite simply one of grammar, and the main work to consult in this matter is Dr. Dan Streetmentioner's Time Traveler's Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations. It will tell you, for instance, how to describe something that was about to happen to you in the past before you avoided it by time-jumping forward two days in order to avoid it. The event will be described differently according to whether you are talking about it from the standpoint of your own natural time, from a time in the further future, or a time in the further past and is further complicated by the possibility of conducting conversations while you are actually traveling from one time to another with the intension of becoming your own mother or father. Most readers get as far as the Future Semiconditionally Modified Subinverted Plagal Past Subjunctive Intentional before giving up; and in fact in later editions of the book all the pages beyond this point have been left blank to save on printing costs.
