hallo again :)
now that i have finnaly got the drones skill and in 30 min it`ll be lvl 2, and i plan on skilling the "scout drone operation" skill as well till [what lvl, 2 ?] i would liek to try out the mining in safety zone .7 (the one that has rats in). atm im using the gallante frigate called Tristan, with 2 minning lasers on it. so the Q is: - is that a good ship to mine with (i theink it has a bit too low the cargo space) - are 2 scout drones enoough to kill that rats before they destroy the ship? what equipment should u attatch to my ship before going out to mine in .7? (afterburners, shields, anything, as im kind dont understand much (anything) in these things).
ty for the input :)

My prefered galente mining frigate is the immicus. 2 mining lasers small shield booster, 1mn afterburner 2 cargo expanders 2 medium scouts and 1 light scout
I m not sure how low you can go with that atm but .7 shouldnt be a problem, maybe you can go as low as .5 although I believe that might be tricky with the recent rat upgrades those 14k will hurt you.
To stick to the topic: I d suggest that you save money for a vexor cruiser and after that a dominix battleship, both are quite cheap, good mining/mission ships.
In case you want to specialise in mining maybe a mining barge will be a better option but we ll have to see how good they are.

Moving into the Imicus would be a good plan. It has more cargo space, more drone space, and can still mount two mining lasers.
Definately a good idea to invest in a shield booster. The civilian model will work fine to start off with. Moving into a small version will require a skill (shield upgrades, I think), and will go a long way to improve your survival rate.
The afterburner is nice to have as well. Its certainly not vital, but I can't think of anything else to put in that mid slot.
Cargo expanders in your low slots will allow you to carry more ore. Although, like the shield booster, you'll need a skill to use anything besides the basic model.
Two drones may or may not work, really depending on what you run up against. Don't be afraid to jump out of the system if they start to make too many armor hits. Definately get out if it looks like they'll break through your armor. You might lose the drones, but its better than losing your ship. =)

Immicus has 250 drone bay. This means 5 lights or 1medium+3light or 2mediumm+1light or 1 heavy. Heavy requires drones 5 heavy drones 1 so thats a bit away for you, with drones 3 your best option is 2 medium with 1 light scout.
Another good investment is a small armor and eventually hull repairer. Both drop quite common and will save you a lot of cash in the long run.
Remember dont launch drones before pirates are hitting you. Your ship is better at taking hits then the drones, use the drones to deal out damage not to absorp hits.
Always check the loot cans for better modules. In a few days you ll be surprised with the `upgrades` to markte items you loot.

When I started mining in 0.7 space, I used an Imicus with 2 mining lasers and a bay with 3 light drones for defense. I'd just sit there and mine and sic my drones on any nasty NPC pirates. I'd lose drones here and there, but not often to the point where I had to stop mining.

Got a question for you adv users out there. I tried to put two mineing 2 lasers on my imicus. Got the message that my CPU wasnt enough to run both. How can I upgrade my CPU? I have looked and ther are so many things to buy, I dont want to buy the wrong thing and get screwed out of isk (again). If someone could give me the details of what to buy (the exact name as it is listed on the market) and how to get it going I would be most greatful. That way I can increase my mineing efforts.
Thanks in advance, Jerath

You need co-processors to increase your CPU, and you can train Electronics as well. I doubt you can fit 2 miner IIs on an Imi unless you have Electronics V and use Co-processor IIs, however. You really need a cruiser to fit them properly, and you'll still need the above to fit 5 on a Thorax. I'm not sure about the Osprey and Scythe though.

I'd take that with a pinch of salt... I was mining in a Thorax with 5x Miner II's within two weeks of starting. Co-Processor I's are all that should be necessary and nothing like Electronics 5 will be necessary.

Thanks alot Jalia =) Im usually good at games like this but it isnt exactally in black and white sometimes here on Eve. I will look into that when I can log back on and get the isk for a ship like that.....of course the mineing barges will take some looking into.
Thanks to all that helped, Jerath

But if you want to fully equip the ship, you'll need more. If you just want Miner IIs, it's not that big a deal.

what ishtari said, but adding that 3 Warrior drones work wonders. why? because if you look at their info you get better bang for your buck with 2 small drones compared to 1 medium. As for why a drone with explosive damage? because Sansha 'rats pack armour repairing stuff...better to counter that than anything. ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

hi
This is a bit expensive and you need some heavy skill investments but my set up is:
Thorax H : 5 x Miner IIs M : 10mn MWD, Survey Scanner, (3rd slit still free) L : 4 x Co-processors lvl 1, Cargo Expander.
8 mining drones, and 4 beserkers, 4 wasps for npc spawns.
I have no probs in 0.6, biggest prob is retreiving the M-drones, man there stoopid sometimes.
Dont think i will change this rig untill i have the skils for a shiney new high end barge.

Edited by: Ishtari on 26/11/2004 06:51:23 Personally I prefer vexor over thorax. Why? More cargo and more drones under control. Thorax is a better fighter then miner IMO.
Currently I m using a Dominix for mining, skilling up for large barge atm. It s not the strongest ship, but without too much doubt one of the most versatile with 6 high 5 med and 7 low slots add to that the huge drone bay. Only real downside is the lack of launcher points.
But hey you cant have it all ;)
