Good music but he was a complete druggy.
Predictable end, if you ask me.

I've always found it strange how famous people's deaths are always seen as so much more tragic than, say, the thousands of children who died in Africa while you were writing that post

Quite an apt statement, Xelios, considering Band Aid has produced their famous song again.
I can't wait to see all that charitable donation being wasted by ****-poor fund management in Africa again \o/

Who?
Maybe i'm just too young/old/uneducated/unhip/dumb but I have no clue who this person is (other than the CNN article you just linked to.)
Was he famous?

I think it's because we hear about famous peoples death more than we here about any other. It's not that famous people are more important than any other death that happens in the world. It's just that he/she is "Famous" and more people would like to know if a person he/she knows has died. Not that I don't care about other deaths in the world but I don't know them as I know a famous person.
Sorry for not posting in out of pod experience but just such a shock to me. For the youngings who don't know who "Old Dirty Bastard" was. He was a rapper among the "Wu-Tang Clan". He was prob the most "Original" rapper out there as well one of the top 10 best in the world of all time. He did have a drug problem like most all great musicians. None the less that didn't reflect his music. Check him out.

What them starving childrens need, is a mouf full of gold teef, a blow habit and a platinum hip-hop record. That's the ticket to the big-time.
Anyway, it's like that famous quote guy said: one death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic. The human sense of compassion short-circuits when presented with too many reasons to kick in, it far prefers to fixate on a single attainable cause, something we can relate to or identify with.

But why would one identify or relate to a dead rapper ( drug addict and convicted criminal to boot ). Oh well nvm just don't understand it, never will. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

Is it to hard to understand that he was an artist? I mean that's how I identified to him. I don't care about his personal life or what he does. I care about his music and how it reflects on me. Him doing drugs doesn't make his music sound less great.

Edited by: Istvaan Shogaatsu on 17/11/2004 04:50:20 Good old Stalin.
Anyway, I know that some people here probably respected or appreciated this rapper - we can't make fun of him personally too much, since he's an artist, just like the guy who keeps making pictures of Jesus using his own droppings and insisting art galleries carry his works. No-one is in a position to point at a performance method and state "that's not art" - that said, once we separate ourselves from ODB the individual and examine the general image of gold-toothed, subliterate, sub-70 IQ gun-packing violent criminals and murderers being upheld as celebrities... depressing, almost. I won't condemn his drug problems because I've been known to hoover the odd rail off my girlfriend's tit myself. Just wish Western culture wasn't so enraptured with this particular artform.
