Well i watched tons of youtube videos on how to do it, and they probe stuff out in minutes and it takes me 30+ minutes to get this, and then it dont even work... i basically am able to get the dot yellow where it tells me what type of site it is, with all 4 probes at .5 AU, but can NEVER get it green to warp.... can anyone help?
heres a picture of my final attempt and both are yellow.
Can anyone help me please???
thank you.

Several solutions:
- Deploy 2 more probes, place one directly above the yellow dot and one directly below. - Train up your Astrometric related skills. - Get into a ship with astrometric bonuses (and/or train up the related skill of that ship). - Use faction probes. - Buy probing implants (expensive investment, not recommended).

Quote: - Deploy 2 more probes, place one directly above the yellow dot and one directly below.
That would do nothing. The game only calculates the best 4 probes. MOAR PROBES!!111 does nothing but clutter the UI. Extra probes can be useful for expanding coverage and getting the hit down to a point faster...but it wont improve the radius.
OP: There are TWO potential places where the hit could be. Shift + click to select both of the icons in the scan window that share the same name (SBL-446 in this case). The hit could be either one of those (and then it could be off a bit thanks to deviation).
You can either
a) Position your probes so that you have all four covering both hits, or
b) Position all four probes around one of the hits. If you get nothing, bring them down to where the other hit was.

I use a diamond pattern - arrows pointing at the target - but I used to use the same box pattern as you.
If moving the probes closer doesn't help, go to Plan B: pyramid. Move one probe above the target with 3 below. Angles between all probes should be 60 degrees. This gives a higher signal strength, but I only use it when I have a tough target, as it is time consuming to setup and move around.
When all else fails: * Probing frigate probe strength bonus (T1 is 10% per level, or 20% per level on Covert Ops) * Gravity capacitor Rigs (2x 10%) * Sisters Core Probes (10% stronger) * Sisters Probe Launcher (5% stronger - I don't use one) * More Astrometric Pinpointing skill * More Astrometric Rangefinding skill
I have level 3 in both skills and have never had a problem probing anything while in a rigged Covert Ops (level 3).

Sometimes it is just impossible. I have all relevant skills at L4 or 5, found site in Zephyr and could not get it over 35%. Flew 30 jumps to get my rigged Helios and ended up at 99.7 %. Needless to say, i was not pleased. Perhaps I should invest in those sister probes... Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? They arenĘt built for this! Zephyr is a horrible scan ship. I find it harder to scan with.
Zephyr is just meant to look pretty. Don't use it. A T1 probe ship is vastly superior.

QFT - grab a ship designed for it. So in a nutshell use thew right tools for the job, and if your current tools are not working, upgrade them :)

I had the same problem. Simiply move your probes closer to the signature (but not too close).

Edited by: Di Mulle on 22/12/2009 10:24:20 First. Bring probes closer. Do not overdo this, though, or you will start to get 4 hits. Very very rough rule of thumb, overlap area should not exceed 50% of all blob.
Second. Check vertical plane. You want your hit to be in same plane with your probes.
Third. More probes is nonsense. Using up to 8 probes has it's purpose, but it is not for getting green hit.
Fourth. Keep pattern symmetry. If you use box pattern (3d "pyramid" pattern is probably better, but it involves more clicks when moving around) you want hit to be neatly in a center of a nice square. Probes non-aligned to each other bring more deviation.
Fifth, MOST IMPORTANT. In your image I see 0.5 au range. You know there is 0.25 AU range, right ?
Sixth. Hardest sites MAY require more skills/better equipment.

this mean that you use wrong probes for this. You must use "Core Scanner Probe I" ( they have 0.25 AU scan range), not a combat scanner probe.
