Iv been having some issues with severe lag the last wee while....
For example u warp to a gate, u arrive at the gate, then its like u rewind about 2 seconds back, and arrive at the gate again ...
Also last night i was messing about, shooting a corp mate, when his shields dropped, i stopped shooting, but i got the massive rewind lag spike, and he just about lost his ship..
My corp mates are also suffering with the same probs.
We seem to have the local chat bug again, it was bad a few months ago, but now its stepped up a new lvl.
It isnt just myself, so im thinking alot of ppl are getting this.... This is worrying as Shiva will be put upon us soon, but can we really take it when TQ still has so many terrible bugs, and server lag?.....
Im thinking 100 BS attacking these pirate complexes will give us SEVERE problems, all these new POS structures also, remember CCP wont be putting in any new equipment to cope.
If CCP pull this off, ill be VERY impressed, but i just cant see it.... to be realistic we need another 6 months to sort out many of these issues.

so it doesnt worry u that they were totally unable to fix these problems over 18 months? . if TQ was running the way it should be, and they were putting this expansion on us id say go for it.. but its not....
trust me, its gonna go t i t s up..

My understanding was that the Shiva patch contained some changes to fundamental code that should improve lag issues.
Though, this doesn't mean I'm confident that the patch is anywhere near ready.....

Client lag is greatly reduced, frankly I have no idea about server lag. I do know that my computer runs so much smoother on the shiva server that I would be willing to change over now with all the other bugs that are plaguing Shiva server now. __________ Capacitor research |

Surely the test servers are underpowered which may account for the lag?

Hi,
If all the problems you talk about are on TQ then I wouldn't be too worried. TQ is old, shiva is new. As a software developer myself it is sometimes common not to fix "minor" problems with old software when you are developing the new stuff. Very often, especially with things like lag, it can be down to a fundamental design error in the current software. If this is the case then a rewrite is very often the only way to fix it.
The only real worry I have about shive is CCP trying to release it too quickly to suppress the "but you said it would be ready ...." calls.

Based on the past experience, it's going to be worse for some time. Don't need to be a prophet to see that. -- Stories: #1 --

Ofc, large patches usually end up screwing up play.
Doesn't mean they're not trying, tho

Oh, I give them all the credit I can give. And I do not really mind having a screwed game for some time as long as it goes into the right direction.
I can wait :-). -- Stories: #1 --

One of the biggest things is that the hardware was definately no where near the same as TQ's. This was one of the original reasons that the accounts were released in small batches.
They added more equipment but I somehow doubt it is anywhere near the level that is currently running TQ as it doesn't make economical sense. They could have stripped down the systems so there was say only a few dozen of each security but would you rather that they spent time stripping down to a smaller version of TQ or explaining to put up with the lag and let them get on with fixing bugs?
Also its easier to test things on a mirror than a completely stripped version with fake figures everywhere (so that people could test lvl 4 agents for instance). Yes I had problems and sometimes very frustrating ones with lag etc but it still allowed me to test and hopefully help bug a few of the problems.
I know what you are saying but with the underlying code improvements somethings I now get no lag which I would normally expect on TQ. I guess I'm just saying I don't imagine that most of the lag (other than perhaps the damnable cloud formations) are down to coding rather than the sheer size of the items held on TQ. Kel
