I am curious, does the Rifter frigate appear much in Minmatar culture?
That is, are there poems, songs, interpretive dance about it?
Have any scholarly articles been published about it, and its cultural importance due to its history?

So I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb, Seeing visions "over yonder" of the war I know must come. In the hangar - not a vision - but a sign for coming days Stand a crate of ammunition and a rifter ready for the blaze. And in this, the living present, let the word go through the land, Every tradesman, clerk and peasant should have these two things at hand.
No - no ranting song is needed, and no meeting, flag or fuss - In the future, still unheeded, shall the spirit come to us! Without feathers, drum or riot on the day that we must face, We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations out in space. While the bitter parties stifle every voice that warns of war, Every man should own a rifter and have his ammo safe in store!

Ten little Rifters flying in a line, One broke down and then there were nine.
Nine little Rifters waiting at a gate, One crashed into it and then there were eight.
Eight little Rifters drifting under a starry heaven. One emergency warped and then there were seven.
Seven little Rifters cuttin' up their tricks, One burned out his drive and then there were six.
Six little Rifters all alive, One self-destructed and then there were five.
Five little Rifters trying to explore, One entered a wormhole and then there were four.
Four little Rifters couldn't quite agree, One went its own way and then there were three.
Three little Rifters with their smelly crew, One was abandoned and then there were two.
Two little Rifters fooling with a gun, One shot the other and then there was one.
One little Rifter flying all alone, He met my Crusader and then there were none. ____

The Rifter is a fascinating example of a new Minmatar design philosophy that moves away from the traditional (some might say stereotypical) "girders, spare parts and scaffolding" design ethic of older Minmatar ships, clearly visible on ships like the Breacher, the Burst, the Typhoon, the Tempest and to a lesser extent ships like the Scythe, the Bellicose and the Stabber. Transitional-phase ships such as the Stabber and the Rupture speak of an era after the war of independence when the Republic was still finding its feet, so to speak, in terms of ship purpose and aesthetics.
This new design philosophy emphasises clean lines, prominent engines and large, panel-like armour plates placed over a more solid, regular internal structure showcasing a new effort to make their ships symmetrical. This can clearly be seen in ships like the Maelstrom, the Hurricane, the Hel, its smaller variant the Nidhoggur and the Fenrir. The Rifter remains the only example of a Minmatar frigate constructed in roughly this manner. -----

Ship with whom I have lived, ship with whom I now die, serve right and justice one last time, seek one last heart of evil, still one last life of pain, shoot well old friend, and then farewell.
Or was that one of my more 'laser oriented' ships...
Anyways, you don't need scholarly articles or interpretive dance to say the Rifter hull and its variants are the best frigates ever. End of story.

And after him was Pastor the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with a rifter: and he also delivered(freed) some slaves (Israel). Judges 3:31
And he found a new girder for a rifter, and put forth his hand, and took it, and killed 1000 Philistines with it, wielding it like a club. Judges 15:15
Then went Pastor to Gaza, and saw there a rifter, and went in unto her. Judges 16
And Pastor said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he sped himself with all his transversal; and the flew his rifter upon the houses of the holders, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life. Judges 16:30

The Matari drinking song 99 Rifters in Pator on stock can be found in the Pator public library together with the midifile that is playing it.
There some lesser famous variants around but the original is dating back at least when the first wing of Rifters met the first wing of Punishers back that ol' days and some say it was on the party after that fight that brought up the song. -- FREEDOM, PUNK & AUTOCANNONS

nb-"red box" is a colloquial term describing ships of negative standing, or war targets as they are designated through the pod-systems i.f.f facilities.

"Can you fly a Rifter?" is a customary phrase used in answer to a new pilot who wonders if he can do anything useful for a fleet, the implication being that every ship and every pilot counts. The Rifter has become the symbol of this, being a very versatile ship that is useful in the hands of a rookie and extremely effective in the hands of a veteran.
I believe it also is the one ship that the "lonesome pilot" type tends to fly in the countless B-class holovids set on the fringes. The grim man haunted by his past, in is old trusty Rifter, flying away with the sun on his back after single-handedly saving the mining colony from a 20-strong fleet of slaveraiders, that sort of stuff.

A quick extra-net scan reveals quite a many references to the Rifter -class frigate in Minmatar culture. From my own experience as well, it does feature quite prominently in many older songs, poems and stories as it was one of the more prominent ships that the Minmatar freedom from Amarrian tyranny was built on. I'm not certain how it has been in recent years, but most of my generation knew this ship from childhood, me personally especially because my uncle ran a shop that used to repair and refit spacecraft, Rifters being one of the more common visitors - did you know that Rifters make very good smuggling-ships with just a few, relatively cheap modifications?
Well, that being said, it is deeply entrenched in folklore as a ship - altough one of many - that with many brave crews bought our freedom, and keeps succesfully fighting for freedom to our brethren, even today. ---Ayuun Korras, Venge Captain of the Republic. ------------------- This is Sig. The Rifter is very close to some of the core values of the Minmatar "spirit" - extremely effective for its low technology level, highly versatile, and in that, a single tool that can easily be adapted to any situation you face.
And of course the fighter jockey is an age-old symbol of heroism in many tales, the Rifter picks up this tradition quite well.

To be correctly some of the Brutor reach the last bar of the song on their feet. We Sebiestor have our problems to get over bar 50 and the Vherokhior - usually cheat. They call it something smart from financial market business, like options passing, but I call it cheating.
Amarr normally betray their god after verse 25 and Caldari begin to sing songs about Gallente women after verse 30 and give away stocks of their company for free. -- FREEDOM, PUNK & AUTOCANNONS

I'd never get past verse 15. If I did, I'd probably spend the rest of the week in hospital. I kinda have a pretty low tolerance for alcohol. And that's probably why the Vherokhior cheat, seeing as us Jin-Mei and the Vherokhior seem to share a common ancestry, judging by the common facial features we share.

Normally that's a community drinking ritual. Everybody is drinking a gulp of the bottle and passes it around. You don't drink the whole bottle for each verse.

Agreed, that is indeed something worthy of archiving.
And I was indeed thinking of that, except it was a jug and everyone had their own, taking a swig after each verse.
