Which says more about your greedy and jealous character... :0)
I donated most of my 1 billion to people around me, some which I don't even know... The rewards from such acts are fortunately bigger than Complete (re)Tarted comments like yours...
Oi shut it imo
I've given away 100's of millions on my main over the years to n00bs or people who needed it - I didn't go running to the forums each time all :smug: and lookin for ****in pats on the back

Great reminder to those of us who have been in game for a long time and forget what it was like to start off with nothing. It has inspired me and probably others to do the same.

I used to do that sorta thing back when I was in SAK. When there was a pretty cool new kid in corp chat, I'd help him out, bring him to tag along level fours to get ISK, go rat 0.0 with him for a while.
It made me a couple of long-lasting friends.
Being kicked off the newb corp stopped me from doing that anymore, but I do miss those times. I'm more of a "teach a man to fish" kind of person than a "give a fish"
Anyway, Tl;DR : Being good is rewarding in it's own sense.

I sometimes do the same, but with smaller sums of money and I tell them how to use it wisely and become better faster instead of wasting it on stupid things.
In fact, Im gonna find someone to sponsor right now.

I find that when I have ever given a new player so much as 10 million isk, they quit within a month. Almost like a curse.
And what's with the "LOL". That right there would make me reconsider.

Edited by: Syrinx Edens on 23/12/2009 17:21:09 I dont think giving liquid isk is the right way to do this, a new player will not know how to spend this wisely imo.
A more useful and meaningful gift would be to fit say, a frigate, a cruiser, and a battlecruiser with typical PVE fits, fill them all with ammo, and also add the advanced learning skill books, and any books needed to learn how to fly these ships.
This way, they can't waste isk (unless they sell everything of course), are not 'spoiled' as they still have to work their skills towards flying each of these ships properly, and the advanced learning skillbooks are 4.5mil each, so they would be a big help also.
That is how I would do it, anyway.

I agree with you on most of your post. However, the ISK keeps the users aspirations in the direction they want to go in & you can never really know where that direction lies. Only they know. If I give a noob a nice battleship he may train to fly it or he may just sell it at least having the ISK allows him the freedom to establish his own direction.

Is there any such thing as altruism?

I think there is. I see it in the eyes of my wife everyday as she cares for our children or in the selfless sacrifice of dedicated professionals like doctors & nursing staff. Sometimes the giving has a greater reward than the taking & I believe that Eve can be a reflection of how people measure you both in the game world & real life.
