People need to quit whining about mining and what it is and isnt all together..
Whoever sayd noobs had to mine?
Noone did, they figured it out by themselves! Why? Simple...everyone around them was doing it so they went and did it aswell! Why? cause its the fastest way to money!
Be my guest and go pirate hunting for a week to get a..rifter? maybe! Trade? Yes with a cargohold of 120 m3 and about 10k isk worth of buying power your really gonne build up funds by trading in about...4 months orso ;).
Il agree mining isnt allt here is to EVE. But il also agree that its the most efficient way!
Furthermore its my opinion that trade is about as boring as it gets...
Mining is for some not for others...leave those who choose the mining path for its efficienty alone! N00bs dont have to whine about mining! Just dont do it! but then dont whine cause your not making in progress either!
don't whine about having to mine...noone has to mine if they dont want to! Just dont do it period....why would you? If you dont mind doing something in 4 weeks wich others do in 4 days then just do something other then mining. Some people like quick progress...let them have their fun!
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Entheos: "Great post, Hippey! About time started using their brains to think of creative solutions to the "problem" of being bored in this game.
Do you know what I have started comparing EVE to? Anyone ever heard of a little game that came out for the Commodore 64 ages ago called "Sim-City"? It was designed as a software "toy"...they gave you some tools to create the city of your dreams (or your worst nightmares) and then have the option of wiping it from the face of "Sim-Earth" with all manner of disasters, natural and unnatural. Most people thought at the time "So what? You build, you destroy, where's the fun in that? The game will never become popular. It'll never catch on..."
Last I saw, "Sim City 4" was still selling like crazy, and how many people do you know who have "Ths Sims Online"? CCP has given those of us with imaginations a most wonderful gift...a Galaxy simulator, that they loaded up with a great back-history, places to see, intrigue to get involved in.
In short: They gave you a toy designed for you to exercise your IMAGINATION in...5000 solar systems to Romp around to become whatever you want to be, be it Merchant, pirate, bounty hunter, CEO, whatever.
Now start using the area underneath your hair and between your ears for more than just a hat-rack. Have fun! Isn't that what this is all about anyway?"
I second all this - a universe of possibilities indeed. It's a shame people follow such limiting thought patterns without deviation.

Love the posts, keep the positive stuff coming.
mining has more than one form i might add, myself and 2 friends, (the total force bieng 2 thorax's and a bestower) went out one day for a little 'mining'. i took a belt, the other thor took a belt. we both wait for pirates to spawn, BINGO i had a decent 5 cruiser spawn (about 20k a head :) so i proceed to start slaying the opposition, bieng carefull not to kill them all because as we know, npc players when in trouble let off a shriek for backup.
soon i am down to the 2nd to last one, pop, 3 more bandits spawn in, its getting interesting i thought to myself. i start noticing that i dont need to stop firing to keep any alive anymore, (the serpetis are onto me and think that faster reinforcements will break my little one man blockade) so i keep going, and going. now although im not the best pilot in eve, i consider myself to be a darn good one (even if it is self obsession :) and the serpentis plan is starting to work, over the course of the past hour or 2, my road block has consumed about 150 serpentis lives and is starting to actually be a problem, as i kill one out of the five present, another appears. now im a big headed fool and will take on most problems full charge, but i had to admit that i would soon start losing at this rate. 'no' i though, 'no defeat'. the indy, bobbing around the cargo containers, must get every last one home for recycling (luckily for him i had enraged the serps enough for them to not be bothered by him, in his little yellow unarmed ship). i admitted defeat and called backup. my friend arrives form the neighbouring belt after a sucessfull pirate killing bout himself, and we proceed to wipe the floor once again, with serp ass! :) untill we found a real problem. the serp plan was still in effect, they were getting faster still, both of us were dealing with a serp every few seconds or so and usually teaming up on the next one, but alas as we kill they appear. giggling insanely to eachother we start talking about them winning, and the realisation that they arent too far away from swaying the battle hits home, (this time with no more backup and us running low on hybrid ammo). so we decide to finish it once and for all. 'kill every dirty last one of them' we cry >:) we both let loose a legion of heavy drones and proceed to rip them all down to 10%(ish) hull in preperation for a mass explosion festivity (to mark the end of a serpentis attack wing it would seem) quickly we make an attempt to finish it. BOOOOOM before we could sneeze 4 are down with one to go, but wait another has appeared >:) 'quick' i start yelling 'backup is on the way i bet' :) so we combine guns on the new comer and finish of the remaining 10% straggler. success. we win we guard the belt untill the 300+ cargo containers are all gonea few more battles were fought but nothing as blood drenched as what had just been. at the end the cargo is inspected, 'well done gang' e all thought. ill leave the ammount of minerals gained to your imagination, but lets say no less than 2 thorax's worth of mins were 'mined' that day, and the remaining 'leet gear' was sold for a profit of about 25 million, plus the bounties we had earned. after donations the boats that we had earned from the corp, had earned the corp back more than their weight in minerals and isk seperately. and ohhh yeah,,, we had fun :)
the same could be repeated with 3-4 exeqs and 2 iterons, and a newby corp could make 'a killing' >:) just another fun filled way to earn a living without the need for miners.
i apologise for any bad grammar or spelling mistakes, but the fire from that battle still makes me giddy like a little girl looking at a new barbie doll :) and a little excitement may have knocked my auto spell checker out of sync for the duration of the post :)
c you all out there
(edited after i realised confusion was rife in my brain after reading it, and i wrote the darn thing :)

Just for the record.
newb == newbie, new player who may or may not know everything yet, but is actively learning and being smart but ignorant n00b == no brainer, age and play time are irrelevant, but the player thinks he knows it all and is actively unwilling to learn.
oh, and nercomancy is frowned upon.

I have been playing 1 month now and Im flying a drake with 6 heavy missile launchers a tractor beam and a salvager. I am curently on lvl 2 missions and can do them without dropping below 1/4 sheilds. Soon I will be on lvl 3s. It takes me a while to do a mission because I salvage at the same time I mission. I kill the objectives and then salvage everything. In one mission I got 3 scrap alloy bars and sold them for 1.3 mil plus the other stuff like circut boards, added up to 2 mil. That took me about 30 mins to salvage but worth every second.

nice try, but didn't convinced me that theres noob friendly environment.
A couple of points:
1) Theres no chance of doing most profitable things for noobs: mining in low sec, ratting in lowser, encountering in low sec. You will be most definitely killed there by pvp freaks. 2) Those old players does most profitable things and gets even more rich, this way strengthening they positions for not letting noobs to do business. 3) You can do all those boring things mentioned in thread that are just a hint of what online game should be and not make enough money to afford loosing you ship every time you enter low sec. 4) Forming noobs gang make no sense, old player in solo would kill most of such gangs. 4) Take a note - why majority of players are old players.. and number of players on TQ more or less stable (not rising noticeable).
hope post will not be deleted.

Yea, why the hell shouldn't you be able to make 1 billion ISK within the first day? And to your point 4, that is a stupid, and completely incorrect point.
Also, this is one hell of a Necro.

It ain't necro anymore, now :P
Another fun thing for rookie pilots is as follows:
When you start off in oyur NPC rookie corp, you will most probably be one among several people who just started playing in the last two weeks or so. Once you get the hang of killing rats in missions, try teaming up and doing lvl2 or lvl 3 missions together.
Read up on these forums how NPC targeting works, ask in oyur corp chat about "tanking" and read up on NPC's you will be fighting with, then give it a go as a small group. It can also be lots of fun.
And if you're mining, it's always better to team up with someone, that way you can chat, get to know one another, start some business relationships for the future - some of the best features of EVE are avout what you can do when grouped up with other pilots (be it trading as a team, mining, fighting, or whatever)

What caught my eye was going into 0.0 space with a cruiser. I'm still within my trial period, but I'm flying a Caracel right now. Should I go to 0.0 space?
So far all I've been doing is running level 1 missions, and the money is so-so.

Originally by: Master Scy Hippey, you have exagerated far too much.
First of all, trading is not really much of a possibility until you mine your way into an industrial and the skill(s) needed for it. .
When will people realize you DO NOT HAVE TO MINE EVER !!!
