I have recently had the misfortune of having first hand experienced the devastation of the new DD weapon on the Titan. While an awesome weapon for large fleet engagements, I feel that the ship itself is now being used out of context.
The context I refer to is "hot dropping". These drive-by shootings so to say are not what this awesome weapon was intended for nor is there any type of reasonable counter measure for it. My experience was 2 titans being hot dropped on me. Within 10 seconds, the carrier was gone. All fleet fit mods/resists activated.
The titan was intended to change the balance of power on the large battlefield. Not be a drive-by toy nor should it be IMHO. Obviously you can't just "do away" with it nor would this be warranted as the Titan obviously has its place in the game.
THE SUGGESTION - How about increasing the cost of mobilizing the titan. For example if costs 250 million to mobilize a titan then doing so just to hot drop 1 carrier or other single capital ship is no longer really feasible. Obviously this is a small cost when dealing with a large scale fleet op which is what this ship was intended for.
My 2 cents.....

It's a tough call. WIth their incredible cost, the only "acceptable" death for a titan is to have your fleet pwned and then get scanned down and ganked before your aggression countdown expires. With their lame buffer tank and highly compartmentalized battlefield role, the hit and run tactic is the only one that really fits them in large engagements, and of course it's ridiculous in small engagements, as you've noted.
I'd rather see the hit and run totally nerfed, have the DD kill the warp core or require an anchoring module or something so that you have to commit a titan in order to bring it to bear, and then add in a proper supercapital tank. That way, a "hot drop" would start out with 90 seconds of the titan anchoring, during which you might have a chance to bail, and then it would start spewing fire and generally being a jerk, whereupon you might be able to jump in a huge dread fleet and tear it a new cornhole. Apprehension is a better reason to leave it in the hangar than deployment costs, imo.

Agree the titan driveby's are becoming more common. but disagree that the titan needs nerfing in any way.
I like the new doomsday and the titan's increased visibility, and i dont think it needs nerfing, it just means that capital pilots can no longer play undocking games, and we all know undocking games are lame so this is good!

Edited by: TheLordofAllandNothing on 23/12/2009 10:26:31 That teaches you to camp a station or whatever in your carrier. Titans are now designed to do this to capital ships, get used to it. People who put them selves in a situation where they get hotdropped have no one but themselves to blame.
And to anybody who thinks that making it so a titan cant warp out after doing DD, this will just further worsen blobbing, as only with overwhelming numbers would you commit a titan past it being in a pos ornament bridging. Having fought with the new titans dozens of times so far, i say they are fine, and doing the job of the most expensive ship in eve.

Edited by: Catalust on 24/12/2009 00:48:37 The titan should now be used as a day to day operational ship. Let me ask you this.......How will you view the titan when it becomes the common place aggressor for pirate and merc corp/alliances such as the Privateer Alliance. Way I understand it, Privateers are now looking to recruit Titan pilots for just this. This type of action by titan pilots will eventually make it so that people will not even undock or seek to own a capital ship, either military or industrial. I know that as a result of my loss to a PAIR of hot dropped titans I am in no hurry to replace it. Therefore future CTA calls by my alliance will most likely see me on the battlefield in a BS or Logi and not a carrier or dread. I sure as hell am not going to fly my Rorqual or JF as long as this threat exists. There is no countermeasure for it at all. Not even the intro of the new supermom will counter this type of ridiculous attack. You can not mobilize a counter to this attack fast enough. I do hope that CCP looks into a way to deter this action.

It is the concept of doomsday aka wining button which is fail.
It took 2 year for CCP to understand how lame was the first doomsday, when a carrier was doomsday to hell in 49- by 25+ titans.
What will happend when a 80b will get hotdropped by 30+ of those, and dd the exact same way, and not being able to do anything?
CCP should stop listening players who are just looking for a giant space ****.
Dreads should be somehow sensible to ewar when in siege, remove theat stupid dd from the game, to drive titans back to it original logistic role, bring his buffer down to something less lame, imporve ew<ar capability of MS by fixing remote ECM burst.
The same way, the new supercarrier is somehow irrelevant except for camping in low sec. It will be close to unkillable by most of people not matter what in low sec. It will still be useless in fleet fights since dreads can dps in a much more better way that supercarrier can. It just has no role.

Oh, Catalust... Your whine reminds me of the days I loathed undocking anything worth over 100 mil because the bad men in the Black Ops would come and take it from me.
I feel for you I do.
But I have your answer.
Hop into a Carrier. Move your mouse over the Undock Button Acknowledge to yourself that yes, A titan will drop on top of the station the moment you undock Imagine the Arazu smugly waiting outside the station and know he could be there Imagine them laughing over their vent server over their victory and know that they will And then Undock
Some of the hardest victories and greatest prizes in EVE are all in your head.

Ok, let's bring some facts to the table.
In the dev blog dominion - the capital battlefield it was clearly stated that "The weapon has drawbacks that are designed to prevent the Doomsday drive-bys of the present, (..)".
So DD drive-bys are not what the devs want. They just didn't succeed in implementing the appropriate measures to ensure this. |

I personally have not been killed by the new DD but the drive bys are getting annoying to see. Perhaps they should change it to where it takes 20 seconds to charge and takes 70% to 80% of the ships total capacitor to fire?
Or since there are so many of them now make them into a 0.0 alliance support ship.
1. Change the DD into a Jump Bridge where you have to have two titans link up making it into a mobile POS jump bridge.
2. Make the DD into a temporary mobile cyno jammer of some sorts.
3. Give me more aggressive fleet bonuses
There are lots of ways you could go with titans but if they are to remain an offensive weapon to be used on the battle field thatĘs where they should be. Not hot dropping a capital and warp around in system for 10 minutes.
IMO a ship that is that expensive should have no direct combat role, it should be an alliance effort and have an alliance supporting role.

The issue is that with the ridiculous amount of HP a titan now has, not everyone can gather enough friends to kill it in less than 10 minutes before he log off.

Baiting means you place a trap for them, have the troops ready and give them a juicy carrier to drive by. not meant to be assembly emergency fleet to hotdrop it.

Well, not everyone can get 150 + people in dreads waiting hours at a stagging POS doing nothing, waiting that some stupid titan pilot dd your baiting carrier.
So basicly, the random player which is not in a big alliance had not way to kill a titan / supercarrier. This is dumb.
