Is there such a mythical beast to be found anymore?

I couldn't find any a year ago, so I doubt it. There's some 19" ones from liyama for instance still around. But those aren't exactly "new".

/me hugs his Sony FW900
but new crt's? nope... sadly, no way. i'd recommend ebay or something and try to get a used triniton - they are pretty cheap, unless you want 24" full-hd like me, now and still the best you can get.

CRT's are dead, and i am happy. i have a summer job where i set up and move computers for the school district, and i wanted to toss each one out the window. your best bet is ebay or a garage sale.

Edited by: Marko Riva on 01/01/2010 09:59:48 HP 1230, still have it and no one wants to buy it. It's a fantastic monitor though. Bought the thing 4 years ago from some surplus hours I had built up (worked in a computer store), my other colleagues ordered flatscreens and stuff like that I went on a long search for a new monitor (had an old Sony 19 trinitron) but found there were only a few proper 22 inch CRT's left. After some checking (don't get the iiyama) I went for the HP and it's fantastic.
But sadly, EVE likes widescreen and the thing warms my room noticably which is annoying in the summer.

Edited by: Trathen on 01/01/2010 10:49:18 I think you're better off letting the LCD upscaling work it's magic. Maybe you have a cheap LCD monitor that does it poorly?
Also CRTs are a power hog. My power bill dropped noticeably after switching to an LCD TV and monitor.
Better yet, TV-out.

Tried pretty much every monitor any store would let me plug into a laptop and fire up dosbox on, have yet to find one that satisfied me with the scaling.. i dunno, call it OCD
I have my old trinitron still, but is starting to show its age, very dark, eve is 'almost' unseeable at times.. got a quote for a refurbish job on it, would getting the gun replaced bring it to like new? is there other factors that will keep it from looking like new? (No image burnt onto it, but i'd imagine the screen still burns, even if not an image?) |

I have a 24" ViewSonic 1920x1080 HDMI LCD monitor and have had no problems running DOSbox or anything else for that matter.
As to finding a CRT, the only one's I see now are ones left by the dumpsters in the apartment complex where I live. It's an unwritten rule that anything left there is free to anyone. I wouldn't touch one with a stolen power cord.
I mentioned it to my wife and she said our daughter saw it and wanted it for her new computer. I'll have to sit her down and have a long talk about why that is a big idea. She's 9, she doesn't know any better. Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

You need to crank up G2 on he monitor. It's usually inside the casing altough some monitors offer access to it at the back. Some rare pieces can be adjusted from menu.
Either that or have someone do it for you.
Here. Ofc you don't need to solder anything. If there isn't such knob inside or outside then you should probably buy another monitor.

i have no problems running anything on a lcd monitor, i have problems with interpolation. (same with poorly implemented mip mapping, back when the idea was young in games...) Drives me insane, eyes strain... so i wind up playing in windowed mode or with a big black border and a gameboy sized display >_<
Sazkyen, awesome linkage, thank you. I respect the capacitors, and dont trust my multimeter, so i'll have someone that knows what their doing give it a shot ;) |

I see what you mean, pun intended. I sometimes have this problem with a few old games. Thought you were on about something else. Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |
