When i start my computer the screen go black and the monitors power button blink. I can hear windows start in the background but the screen stay like that. I cant even turn it of, the screen don't react to me pressing the power button.
I have had this error three times before. Once it was solved by switching to a new identical screen. a second time i needed a new graphics card. a third time a windows reinstall fixed it.
I managed to bypass the error this time to get my comp working by leaving the screen turned of until the computer and windows was fully started.
The error can also occur if i alt+tab out of a game with a different screen resolution than my desktop.
All my drivers are updated. The temperature of my cpu and gpu is not higher than normal and my windows(xp) if fully updated. My antivirus is running and i just finished a full scan.
While i could buy a new computer it would wipe out all my saved up cash so i wont.
But fixing this every 6 months is getting annoying.

the manual for your monitor should have a legend about what a blinking power-button means...
some things i thought of while reading: 1) the monitor isn't getting enough power (if the powercable from the monitor goes to your computer, check your power supply thingie... if not, check the powercord)
2) the monitor cable going to your graphics card (my dad had a problem with one of his monitors where the cable was specially made for *that* particular monitor... using any other cable meant the monitor didn't want to start)
3) the monitor is crap. get another brand. (or borrow a friends monitor for a bit and see if you get the same problem - and whether HE gets the same problem with yours).

Edited by: Antara Cross on 25/12/2009 18:41:42 Had the same problem once and it ended up being the graphics card. You might want to put in a different card to see if the problem persists, and, if it does, try to get a replacement from the card manufacturer.

Sounds like your graphics card and monitor are having problems communicating with each other. The graphics card wants to know how to display the picture, and the monitor isn't responding properly.
The flashing power button means the monitor is in standby mode. It's waiting to recognize a proper signal coming from your graphics card, which also means your graphics card isn't communicating properly.
The problem can be anything from hardware (monitor, cable, graphics card) or software (graphics drivers). However, this might be a design flaw that is unfix able.
I've experienced this problem in the past, and it's most likely a design flaw with the monitor or graphics card. You mentioned replacing the monitor with an identical model. I would try using a different computer monitor, that's also a completely different model. Likewise, you can try using a completely different model graphics card, if you haven't already. It will most likely fix your problem.

I had the same problem with my shiny new flatscreen..... But it was because my bull mastiff is escared of thunder and lightning and decided to crawl under my computer desk and pulled the power cord half way out of the monitor. Could be that you had a short like me? I took mine back to the store and told em it was broken..... They replaced it with much frustration on their part.
