So I've been training in the mining skills to start building my financial kingdom, and for months now, the price of a hulk was sustained at about 100 mil. And then Dominion came out. Now the price has skyrocketed to almost DOUBLE at 180 mil.
I'm curious as to what's causing this? It sucks that it happened right at the time im looking to buy one (will be ready to fly one in Jan).
Some people in local say its just from supply and demand, but SOMETHING had to have happened to make it jump 80% within 2 weeks.
Anyone know or have any guesses as to why?

Short Answer.. Post like this
Long answer, change in production times and cost, which caused people to rush the market wanting to get in on the increase in price, which caused shortages, which causes post like this which are either indirect or direct market manipulations.
So in the end, peoples just like you ; )
Should be moved to the MD forums.

Yeah i wasn't sure which this question fit better in. I also hadn't realized its production requirements had changed, which would obviously do it. EVEntually |

I personally think it's all those wannabe market gurus that seriously think that Hulkageddon will have noticeable impact on the market. Speculation, period.

Also don't forget that now with dominion all the 0.0 spaceholding alliances are telling everybody to mine their socks off on all their accounts and alts as to upgrade their systems, which naturally causes increased demand since nobody in 0.0 owned a Hulk or even knew what 'veldspar' was pre-dominion. __________________________________________________

Price predates that and has everything to do with the change in t2 construction requirements and the huge price rise in post-reaction moongoo.

Of course, I'm aware of the changes, I used to build T2 ships with my alts. I was refering to the fact that Hulk prices went up faster than other ships right after Hulkageddon II was announced.

If you check out the item database on exhumer building requirements you will see two component requirements increased by a factor of 10. That's crystalline carbonide armor plates en photon microprocessors. The effect would make a 3 times more costly to build. Also it would take 10 times more time to build the needed two before mentioned components. I assume this is an error. ============================= Selling Mackinaw Exhumers Linkage |

And it will eventually stabilize as supply grows and meets demands, (hopefully).
And the other factors mention here have an effect as well I imagine. -

At this time nanotransistors seem to have the most impact on the cost of building these exhumers. Also the cost of crystalline carbonide does add, yet in a smaller effect, add to the cost of these ships. As a builder i am again astounded by the impact a few decisions can have on a game. At this time it seems a good thing i have a stock waiting for a new market. ============================= Selling Mackinaw Exhumers Linkage |

This little instruction video will explain EVErything. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

Since the Dominion release it takes longer to build the components for a Hulk. A lot longer. That's going to translate into a higher price for the end product. This is being somewhat compensated for by running more component BPO's simultaneously, but that can't compensate for the second reason the prices have gone up.
The use of moon materials in T2 construction has been weighted differently. This has the effect of decreasing some prices, such as for Ferrogel. It also has the effect of increasing prices on other types of moon materials and increasing the amount of them needed. Until production of moon materials readjusts to the new supply demand, prices will remain high and climbing. The need is for more mining arrays going after stuff that was previously not worth going after so much.
A lot of T2 builders are suspending production while waiting for prices on moon materials to stabilize and recalibrate. That also translates to higher prices due to shortage in supply and a demand that remains constant.
The price will stabilize inside a couple of months and go down to the new price, but that price is going to be higher than the old price. The days of 100 mil Hulks are probably gone for good, but that's still better than the days before invention when holders of Hulk BPO's had the prices jacked to between 430 and 500 million isk.
