I dunno how else to ask this... I've been wanting to use my Codebreaker for awhile now, but I can't ever find a radar site. Should I just go from system to system until I get lucky? Or should I use better probes (Using Core Probes) or train some skills? -- My Blog: http://moobs.avempire.net/ |

You have to use probes as the sites are hidden. You will just have to fly from system to system scanning until you find one unfortunately. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always ascertain the vintage of the first two. |

Edited by: Johnny Lurch on 29/12/2009 18:11:14 Edited by: Johnny Lurch on 29/12/2009 18:10:38 Core probes are just fine, that's all I use. Definately go to low/nullsec for your exploration as hisec is an exercise in frustration; most of the sites are not only crap, but they're far in between due to competition. The further in to lowsec you go, the more you'll find and the safer it tends to be. Be sure to have hacking to at least level 3 though, because anything less can take forever.
Also, if you haven't already, get the probes/launchers from Sisters of Eve LP stores. The bonuses are well worth it (plus the launchers hold much more).

You can always tell what Cosmic Signatures are present in a system, no matter how bad your skills or modules are. It is only a matter of placing the probes so that you cover the whole system.
You may have issues getting sites scanned to 100% so you can warp to them. That is where better skills and equipment help. But just telling if something is there in the system or not, that is always possible, even with just a core launcher and core probes on a non-bonused ship and just the basic astrometrics level 1 skill.

Just keep looking. They arent that common, but they arent that rare either.
Of the last 45 systems I have scanned, I have found:
8 Gravimetric 8 Radar 3 Ladar 6 Magnetometric 27 Wormholes (counting scanned side only) 21 Combat Sites
Bear in mind, you only need to scan a sig to 25% to identify it as Radar (or Grav/Ladar/Mag). You need to take it to 75% to distinguish between Wormholes and Combat sites.
So if you are only looking for Radar's you can stop at 25% and chase another sig, or move on.
You should be able to get to 25% with any ship and basic skills. Getting 100% to warp to may be a bit harder!

They show as "Unknown" in the Group column. Then at 75% you'll get something in the Type column.
