A few questions.... should i run a large shield booster II and try to perma run it, or get an x-large II and boost it sporadically? I'm trying to find the best tank setup.
Another question is should i use a target painter on missions that have alot of frigates and cruisers? I seem to have alot of issues with dps (volleys hit for 243 damage on average) against angel cruisers. I'm using cruise missiles currently. My drone skills are average/below average and i'm working on scout drone operation 5 right now.
Here is my current raven setup for tanking lvl 4's. (the setup below is for angel specifically)
[Raven, Lvl 4 Raven] Capacitor Flux Coil II Capacitor Flux Coil II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
Explosion Dampening Field II Explosion Dampening Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Large Shield Booster II Shield Boost Amplifier II Invulnerability Field II
XT-9000 Cruise Launcher, Wrath Cruise Missile XT-9000 Cruise Launcher, Wrath Cruise Missile XT-9000 Cruise Launcher, Wrath Cruise Missile XT-9000 Cruise Launcher, Wrath Cruise Missile XT-9000 Cruise Launcher, Wrath Cruise Missile XT-9000 Cruise Launcher, Wrath Cruise Missile Heavy Diminishing Power System Drain I [empty high slot]
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I [empty rig slot]
Valkyrie I x5
According to eve fitting tool against angels i can tank 502 dps sustained and 510 reinforced, the cap can last 23 minutes (nearly permarun) and i do 296 dps with 2616 volley damage. The issue i think is the sig radius of those cruisers, because my volley damage against them is a pitiful 267 (farcry from 2616). Is a target painter worth it or shoudl i just keep training drone skills?
Any advice is appreciated.

Use Devastator on Angels
One more CCC and it's cap stable
T2 drones adds 31 dps compared to T1
Try to get 400 dps output minimum
XL booster won't fit unless you lose the nos

Well, I'd start with dropping in the third CCC or possibly a rigor... up to you really.
I'm partial to runnng the XL on my mission boat, but then again I view my missiles as my best tank. Killing the rats before they have a chance to do any real trouble is the name of the game.
Try to pick up arbalest cruises at least too. They've dropped to pretty reasonable levels now.Other than that I don't see much wrong with the setup. Switching out one of the hardeners for a painter might not be a bad choice for cruiser heavy missions, but honestly drones are the best solution to cruisers. |

There is no better bang-for-the-buck in an L4 Raven than this.

I tried to do the mission buzz kill and got annihilated by the angels. I had 2 kinetic and 2 explosive tech 2 hardeners. Here are my engineering skills...

Angels are one of the easiest to shield-tank against other than maybe Guristas. Possible issue with tactics? Drawing too much aggro at once? If you are wanting to draw full room aggro you'll need a bigger tank than simply 1x LSB II + 3x Hardener II.

What do you guys think my resists should be for missions like these? Let's say i'm fighting angels, should it be over 85% for both damage types?

Edited by: Pantload on 30/12/2009 23:09:38 That seems good to shoot for. I remember running successfully w/ as little as 1x Explo, 1x Kin, 1x Invuln for angels. If managing aggro correctly, you should be able to shield boost enough to hold them off while you pop them and decrease your incoming damage.
Consider using the setup proposed by Liang. The 4th bcs really does help and so does a Damage Control II. The painter doesnt hurt either. If you can fit the cpu/grid, use an XL boost instead of large. Use the cap booster only as neccessary to maintain cap while only running shield boost as necessary to stay above about 1/3 of max shields.
*edit* As someone else already mentioned, Meta 4 launchers ( Arbalests ) and T2 drones really help out. Better still is CN launchers w/ CN ammo and better still is T2 launchers w/ Furies for BC/BS and CN for others.
I still think your setup and skills should be capable of doing the mission, so look at ways to avoid drawing so much aggro, and then entertain some of the suggested improvements here in this thread.

Yeah tonight a level 3 even gave me big issues, they just melt through the tank even with boosters on. I sometimes think my character is bugged.

Yeah, go for the X-Large, drop a BCS, put in another CFC in the lows, and put another CCC rig in the empty slot, I've never run mission specific hardeners, only 2 invuls and never really had a problem tanking a Lv4 room in my CNR, much less a Lv3 as you just mentioned.

It almost sounds like your not activating your hardeners (not trying to be an asshat just want to help troubleshoot)or you are and they are not giving you the increase in shield you should be (check that the increase happens while in space and turning them on watching your fittings screen). I use an X-Large Booster myself and just bump it here and there trying to pretty much keep it at about 75% shield. Thats a good way to not forget and get busy watching cruisers pop. When you run missions use the mission guides so you are aggroing smaller groups if you are not already doing so. The target painter helps for those cruisers too and since they are in about every mission its a good way to go. Between your drones, target painter, adding another CCC and BCS in low you should do good. If you find CPU is a problem you can use a co-processor to help out there. Main thing is have just enough tank and then the rest should be all about popping fast.
