How do I know when a wt is in local, I am in FW and was in a fleet and they were calling wts in local, but everyone in my local were grey to me. How do I make so the bad guys are red?
Thanks

a WT has a red star, just like how a corp mate is a green star
iirc a FW WT should be a orange star or something
these icons are built into all chats and are always there afaik

they all have grey stars, except corp who are green, and pirates whoe are red. Does my CEO have to set standings or something? Bucky O'Hair

Set your overview to show wartargets:
1) You need to be undocked to change overview settings. Ideally you're at a safespot or even cloaked.
2) right-click the small triangle on the overview and change settings. There is a tab that allows you to change "appearance". Make sure that all the categories you want to show have a tick mark. Note that "neutrals" has to be checked, otherwise all the other categories won't show. You can also move the categories up to increase priority. If you set "pilot is in my militia" above "pilot is an outlaw" you will not risk shooting a fellow miltia pilot that happens to have low-security status (recommended setting).
You should also have an option to apply the colortags to ships in space / pilots. I'm not in the game atm, so I can't check the exact name of that option.

1) Filter 1.1) Types -> all ships need a tick mark on your pvp overview (you can have specific overview setting only showing certain types of ships, but that is mostly needed for very large fleet fights) 1.2) States -> put a tick in front of everything except wrecks (use wrecks on a separate overview tab) You can also have one tab with and one without "pilot is in my fleet / militia" to prevent you from shooting friendlies.
2) Appearance 2.1) Colortag -> unselect "apply to ships and drones only" Move "pilot is at war with militia/corp/alliance" to top, followed by pilot is in your fleet ... the order determines what is shown if a pilot falls into more then one category. Only stuff that has a tickmark will get a colortag. 2.2) Background -> again: war to top, followed by fleet, militia only then outlaws. Here I would only set a tick before war / fleet / outlaws to keep the overview tidy. But do what suits you best. 2.3) Ewar -> set tickmarks before every option (make sure you have a tiny free space after the last column in overview, because that's where the ewar icons will show up)
3) Columns -> Use what you need. Bare minimum is distance / name / velocity / type. I also use icon / alliance / militia (tight column where I can barely see the first 2 letters of the faction is enough to know that a "Ga" is a friendly Gallente pilot). A lot of Minmatar pilots use angular velocity aswell to see if their turrets can track a target or not. Again, order the columns as you need them.
4) Ship -> This determines what is shown in space when you move the mouse over a ship. Pilot name and shiptype are the bare minimum, corp ticker can be very handy to determine if several ships belong to the same corp (and likely form one fleet).
5) Miscellaneous -> haven't tried that yet. I suppose it is used by logistic pilots.
6) Overview tabs -> Bracket profile determines what is actually shown in space regardless of what the overview shows. You can have tabs with less brackets showing to reduce lag in fleets. For faction warfare it is recommended to have 1 tab that shows only wartargets on overview to prevent friendly fire.
Join a couple of fleets and adjust overview to your needs. Make use of the maximum of 5 tabs that you can use. The goal is to have an efficient overview that allows you to navigate with ease in low-sec, see all threats, prevent friendly fire but not overwhelm you when things get hectic.
