When the range for a missile is calculated in game is the delta V (closing speed) taken into account? For example if I'm chasing someone at range and I'm moving 100 mps slower than my target, the missile I fire will have a closing speed of 3650 mps instead of 3750. |

Edited by: Evilan Altana on 02/01/2010 05:26:04 The missile will travel at 3750, or whatever its velocity is. A missiles range will be less than this velocity multiplied by its flight time though because once fired it travels for x amount of time, however if the other ship is moving away the total distance it will travel will end up being more than when fired. Also ships moving at a high speed in orbit around you can end up being out of range because the missile goes towards them, and the distance it travels is increased once its in flight.
So to recap no your own ships velocity does not increase the missiles'.

So it is based on actual distance travelled and the missile's velocity is a flat number as shown in "show info"? Makes for some interesting gemoetry calculations when firing at a moving target. Since they're closing in on the point where the missile was launched, they effectively increase the closing speed/decrease the distance. Not too complicated to work out if you're matching speed and direction. It gets a little trickier if you're going perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic and your opponent is on an angle trying to catch up. ---

And even more trickier if the target changes direction in mid flight.
So you just spam your missiles from target lock till death (yours or his).
