Edited by: Professor Bunsen on 02/01/2010 19:55:18 I will post the weekly results for OPTUT2 in this thread. The launch thread can be used for general discussion.
Optech Scientific investments - background
Optech Scientific was formed on 1st March 2007.
The corporation's first public investment was the successful Optech Startup Fund (Eve-O thread here). Building on this initial success was OPTUT (Eve-O thread here) New Edens first public Unit Trust which returned 75% profits over 2 months (results thread). Optech Mineral Ventures (here and results) averaging 7.4%/ month return from mineral trading, and Eve Index, New Eden's first automated mineral futures exchange(here).

Could you update your OPTUT weekly results and OPTUT register of investors pages please?
Also, the "5390 units in issue at start of week" above seems to be wrong, I think it should be 5090 based on existing data.
Thanks. --

Thanks Marcus. In fact the last post is correct, its the first set of results that had the wrong number of units in issue, sorry.
The links to the results spreadsheet are now refreshed and correct and investor register updated.

You state an equivalent 28 day return of 9.3%, but your the only person who buys back the units. So really the 28 day return is 2.5% (you buy units at 1.025m ISK).
So 2.5% return per month, pretty horrible investment then at that rate? No recently launched bonds or IPO's are that low, so is that really worth a 75% management fee?

- but the buyback price did not start at 1.0, in fact it was at 0.95 just 3 weeks ago If this increase continues then it is looking really well.

Let's compare the first posted sell with the latest buy, hmm?
# WE SELL @ 1,109,000 isk
# WE BUY @ 1,025,000 isk
So if I bought early and then tried to resell now, I'd actually be -losing- money. Return is currently negative. ---------------------------------

Edited by: Professor Bunsen on 26/01/2010 23:46:42 9.3% is the 28 day growth in NAV. Yes, there's a spread around the buy/sell price exactly as specified in the prospectus.
From the About unit trusts page "We would advise that you do not view OPTUT2 as a short term an investment (i.e. in this context less than a month) or you will very likely lose money on the resale of units." Linkage
I think I flagged that pretty clearly.
As to my excessive management fees, you know a lot gets invested into OPTECHs security systems and key personnel health plan which I'm sure you would agree is money well spent. Consequently the corporate mainframe has not been mysteriously haxored and I am in splendid health.

No. Early buy-ins were at 1.00.
Your numbers are of course correct for the two days you mention. Now, I can't say I understand how Bunsen's fund works, but I do understand the concept of spread. For the investors it is not interesting to compare "we sell" prices from one point in time with "we buy" prices from shortly after, because the spread is larger than the value increase. What we are keeping an eye on is the monthly % increase in buyback price.

I will be away on business part of next week, so likely to be a temporary dip in profits, but in general I'm pleased with current returns.

Your Current Unit Price still lists the BUY price as 1,116,000 ISK as this page did before the edit (EveSearch).

Not too worried, but is this why there is/was no end of week report (which would solve the above too )? --

The reason this weeks results are late is that I was away as advertised. Its also why they are not so good this week, I have yet to perfect updating orders without playing.
However there was a glitch in last weeks figures because I cashed up, uploaded the spreadsheet to google docs, posted the results thread, changed the website, noticed an error and revised my figures (down) then reupdated the whole thing but missed revising the buy sell price on this thread.
Fortunately no units were bought and sold last week so it was immaterial. Its a problem of manually updating in 3 places which is intrinsically error prone. I could simply post results to this thread, but I think the spreadsheet results are normally helpful so I will continue to update at 3 places for now.

Thanks for the update and news.
The results are not that bad, and still better than most bonds.
Can you not have a automatically updating spreadsheet that you can then cut and paste from to this thread?
Keep up the good work. --

I believe neither Bunsen nor the managing alt have been online for a month or so.
Best case scenario is a case of severe EVE burnout or / and rl issues, and that the guy will return to game sometime to liquidate the fund. ----------------------- Join "Signatures" channel - the chatroom for traders |

Not saying that Prof has run off with money or anything, its just he has past form for leaving the game.
When he launched this it was highlighted by several people that he comes and goes in the game for periods of 6 months +. It was pointed out that no matter what Prof said this was always a VER HIGH risk investment.
IMO the low return on this investmnent was never justified by the risks involved.
