This Thread is being posted at the request of the GM's who I am constantly petitioning about this bug.
My last message from the GM's stated (not quoting so that the thread is not locked/edited): Filing petitions about this matter will not help.
Which begs me to ask the question.... What does filing a Petition actually do?
I know there are several other threads about Faction War and what changes could/should be made. I have posted my ideas in thise also.
All I am asking at the moment is quite simple, Fix the Timer bug issue! If I warp into a Plex and see the timer running without anyone there, I am going to do what I have been doing in the last few days... Petition it and Bug Report it with a screen shot. I am also going to add to this thread, to show how frequently it is occurring.
This is such a small issue in the big scheme of things, it amazes me that CCP can't/wont fix it.

No mate, I didn't. I didn't even KNOW about it until Oct 09, at which time, I logged my first petition. Anyone who has spoken to me about it will know how against it I am.
In fact, I think it should be declared an exploit and you should be banned for using it.

This isn't coad, go back to trolling there.
As for the timer exploit it is more serious than a lot of people realise, sure not in Vard, Auga, Kamela etc etc, but out in the backwater systems, often go in a system plex's all running and either a single player in system or none at all.

If you were filing a petition about an exploitation of the timer bug, then please do escalate this and complain about the GM. I have a nice reply from GM Ocelot confirming that this is considered an exploit and using it is not allowed.
I only got the reply you got above on the issue of not being able to actually finish a complex (it takes much longer than the timer indicates), and customer support doesn't seem to have the tools for that (yet?).

Absoloutely right mate. This is my point. In systems that are frequently travelled through, such as Kamela, Vard, Auga, etc, it is LESS likely to be the case (having said that, I saw it done in Kourmonen today).
I have been in systems where well over 10 plexes have been 'running' at the same time... Without a single person in the system.... I cannot imagine that CCP intended for FW plexing to be done this way.

I know I accidentally caused this bug to happen before. It's easy when you have to warp out because a hostile comes in. But all plexes in one system? That's just stupid. Had that happen to me in Metropolis before - 10 Minmatar plexes in system, no war target, I run down one, all others close, too. Yay.
I've also been driven out of a plex by someone, came back 5 minutes later, system empty, timer running down. Why, thank you.
It's seriously annoying.

What the man said. The Timer bug is probably the only recognized exploit in FW at present, escalate it.
Capture Bug with hidden time overflow was acknowledged early last year, CCP insisted that the time having to be spent is still the same so should have no real impact *sic*. Untrue naturally, but then again CCP seems to have some issues with the timers in general
Astounding that it isn't possible to create some sort of check to see if anything is in range and then stop/start a timer accordingly

No upstanding member of the Amarr Milita has ever used this bug intentionally. It is a by-product of rapid warp-outs and I can't be arsed to go back when I am trying to go help someone or tackle a mission-runner if I notice it happens to my timer(you have to look backwards to see it). However, I usually return to my timers if time permits and I still have a ship.
I cannot even begin to count the number of times I come into systems with active plexes and have run around to find them with timners running. I have to take time to go into them, get in capture range and move out slowly. I shouldn't have to spend time stopping unattended timers.
The fix should be simple, but it is not forthcoming.
I think the cloak-capture bug was fixed, but that still required an active ships around the button. The timer bug allows the unscrupulous to capture (or at least close) several plexes at once without even being there...or in system.
Please, fix this, CCP! Allow the effort of our pilots who take the time to run plexes mean something. Make their time matter.
Over the past few months this has been active, I have filed 3...perhaps 4 petitions. Each time I was told they were aware of the bug, yet...it persists to this day.
If DUST comes out before this is fixed, I will be more than annoyed. Fix what you have before you pile other crap on top of it. I am also curious to see if they can flawlessly integrate sov between console and PC games in DUST, of differing formats, while an item of much lesser complexity still plagues us...
