So yes, any EVE players collect this excellent use of ones income?
I ran into a few the other day, so I made a channel called BATTLEBUNKER. Theres been a few intresting discussions about painting, modelling, what everyone collects and how they play.
So if you collect pop by and say hello

I must say I'm guilty of owning most of the army books, sans the minis, due to me living in a part of the world where there is no market for them.
I'm guilty of buying cheap plastic soldiers and "pretending" they are so and so units ... I have managed to make the game more open to newcomers this way...
Don't look at me funny ... I practically was the only guy in my town that knew about War40k beyond the classic "oh that mini game, cool" phrase. ---

My painting isn't anything special to be honest, it's just the aspect of the hobby I enjoy most.
But I'll give you an example: Herald of Khorne.
It's a bit better than average for me, but it should give you an idea. I'm a rather slow painter, my current army (Chaos Daemons for Warhammer 40k) isn't even halfway painted, and I've been at it for quite a while now. I too tend to multi-task while painting, EVE isn't a bad game to do it with. Neither is the majority of turn-based games.

My 10yr old son has just started getting into Warhammer ... the expense is ridiculous. So far i'm only letting him play fantasy cos the models are cheaper than the 40k models. He goes every saturday to the Games Workshop to learn tactics, rules, painting etc and he really seems to be enjoying the experience. Just wish I could afford to buy him the stuff he really wants

It is anything but a cheap hobby, certainly. But also very satisfying. And it has been getting more expensive in the past couple of years, true. On the British Isles you at least have the benefit of not suffering from GWs rather nasty currency conversion policy.

When you crash your car, then jump out running down the street to save your pod.

2.5k of 'Nids, mostly painted in a Insect-esque red and black pattern on the plate, too expensive to pay now and I don't get much chance to play, the fluff is great though, I just wish it was a lot cheaper (hah who doesn't) to play. 'Nids are great fun to play as too.

I'm quite interested in playing 40K, but it's the expense of the models that has put me off. That and the fact that there are no good places to play where I live.
There was a store in the local mall that I checked out a few times, but they have since closed. Now I just play the computer games. I've played all but Dawn of War 2. Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

Yeah. Having read info (and german nid codex which leaked ;p) they got hit by nerfbat harder than you ever hit anything in eve. Old 100pts carnifex now goes for 160+ and is similiar or worse. Same for hive tyrants and all other larger bugs. Only small buggers got cheaper = GW wants the SWARM :( Shame, always liked my monstruous creatures :X
But back to peen waving: 3-4k tyranids 2k necrons (they got goddamn useless in 5th edition tho... stupid glancing hits nerf) 1k thousand sons (only played em in small tournaments for fun, back when they sucked a lot)
Tho havent played for 4 years now. Planning to get back to 40k this year :)

I have around 3k of Blood Angel's tucked away in the loft.
I used to be a massive fan of 40k, but when they changed the Dreadnought model from what it used to be to what it is now, changed the box and added on ú15 I decided the GW were just money grabbing ****s and hung up my paint brushes Removed. Eve based goes one of two ways if you mean paintjob i'm sure its been done
If you mean mechanically. Imperial Guard is the way to go. They are the heavy guns. I've never had the money and there isnt the playerbase around here to buy an army. But i've wanted to do a 4k army of Imperial Guard with all the fixings heavy aircraft the super tanks the works. =/

yay, more geeks!
I started out with Bretonnia. I was 7 then... didn't quite work out, those damned horses are a pain to paint (and I was 7!). My army ended up looking like a carnival or something.
Then when I was 12 I found my one and only love. The Dwarves. I've been playing them for 10 years now, and I've got about 4000 points if I max out all the units.
Started with 40k about 5 years ago, and got stuck with the Guard... Have about 2000 points but mostly unassembled and unpainted. Was thinking of giving the army a tune up, but then I heard the rumor that there will be a new race added to 40k. So I'm hoping they add the Demiurge (space dwarves, formerly known as squats but GW killed them off).
Will drop by the chat if I remember it when I log on...

Started playing WFB back in the 3rd edition in the 80's. Have played quite a lot of different armies, but stopped when I started playing eve. I have been thinking about starting again tho.
Are the armies some what balanced atm?

Define balanced :)
A good player will give you a run for the money no matter what race they play. But then again, most people I play with say race x is overpowered because y whenever they lose.

I've got about a company and a half of Space Marines (about 160 marines plus support stuffs)
I'd say about 60% of it is actually painted.
For Fantasy Blocks...er battle I have a Dwarven Army on the cheap. About half my models are not GW :).

Balance - every army can be competitive (also on a tournament level).
There used to be a power creep in WFB - especially during the 5th edition times. I stopped playing during the 6th edition, and back then there was quite a difference in "competetiveness" in the armies. Oh well, I would only go back to friendly games, I think, so it doesn't really matter that much.
(the high/dark elves and dwarves were pretty sad in the 6th edition)

Bah, never had problems in 6th ed with my dwarves. Then again, depends on the people you play against. I've won tournaments, but the tournaments we ran at my gaming club weren't super-strict on the composition of the army etc. Never played in a GW held tournament, since there are no GW stores or gaming centers where I live.
An unbreakable combo was the gyrocopter + dragon slayer with Master Rune of Flight. Great at controlling the movements of your enemies. Miners are also great against any army based on ranged, they could wreak havoc on your enemies flanks, a bunch of great weapons running into the rear of a ranged unit is very pleasing to watch...
In my opinion, dwarves are one of the most balanced races. Good selection of melee and ranged units. Great artillery, and great characters. All balanced up by the lack of annoying magic. Much more balanced than, oh, I don't know, Chaos?

Tried to start a Dark Angels army, but since I can only paint when drunk ( got a fine motoric sp? problem, and no I'm not a alcoholic ) it didn't really work out, managed to get one marine squad painted though. Love the look and back story, not at all interested in the game itself though.
