I wonder how some ships can accelerate and turn around without tearing themselves in half

I wonder how is it that ships have a max velocity without friction and constant acceleration. Then I remember it is a game. ;)

Nice WC reference!

Answer to 1.) Inertia stabilizers that distributes inertia over the whole hull without changing the overall vector. Also inertia buffers to keep the crew from getting splattered on the bulkheads.
Answer to 2.) Inactive warp engines cause friction on space, limiting maximum speed and requiring constant thrust to maintain velocity.
It's science fiction, dammit, use it! If it's illogical, you're just not creative enough. --------

ok, so I can appreciate art made in different context, so that means I'm better than a person who don't find the beauty, that is what your logic says, even if you don't really mean that, the words you use divides people into ignorant and educated. Each one likes whatever he wants, that doesn't mean someone is smart or whatever than another.
Inertia stabilizers don't explain side engines on only one side, or small and large engines mixed in a stupid way.

Overimaginative modellers and a lust to make the game so futuristic that aesthetic is discarded over function.
Which makes you wonder why pod pilots bother with a body at all, should just be a brain in that pod really.

hi all,
if anyone have question about CCPs starship desing, see this video from Fanfest 2009. http://www.youtube.com/user/CCPGAMES#p/c/E7A45268BF4505BC/9/zFo6oClb1Lc
and IMHO the Moa like a fantasy deep sea fish with lamp :) i like most of the caldari ships without symmetry. if you dont like, dont fly caldari. thats so easy. with a little asymmetry, the best looking ship will be better, for example maybe the most beuatiful hull is the megathron. at first look it seem symmetric, but it doesnt. with this minimal asymmetric is perfect.

According to the EVE art book, smaller ships have less symmetry to create a better sense of scale in comparison to larger ships. Larger ships are more symmetrical.
I don't feel like writing the whole description of why this is.

IMO because eve has ships that everyone loves and hates to look at, the eve ship designers win.
also abaddon and ark = pure sexy.

Honestly, when I look at Raven for example, I see no realism, no function, no aesthetic pleasure, I just see a bunch of high tech wings and **** that were thrown into it and guess what, Raven happened. The same for many ships, any ship that have non symmetric engines is a stupid not realistic, not functional, not aesthetically pleasant ship.
CCP can have the wildest explanations, then they fail at creating models and fail at not recognizing their designs are fail.
I would be in favor to change ship designs with asymmetric engines because they are stupid beyond belief.
My 5 year old son would draw much better ships that most people would really enjoy instead of this ...... ships. Oh wait I don't have a son, lucky you CCP artists.

The raven? Really? Well its not quite up to my preferred specs I think it looks downright dangerous, threatening and actually fits in with its name.
The only BS in the Caldari line that I have a real problem with is the scorp hulls. And its not that scorps are unsymmetrical its that they look wrong. The thing with symmetry is its a lot easier to arrive at the goals you set out with. With all these unsymmetrical designs its takes a lot more work in order to achieve the same, and with alot of ships clearly the design team wasn't up to it. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

Actually, I think Amarr and Gallente have some of the dead sexiest hulls in the game. Damnation, hello? Harbinger, Armageddon?
On the Gall side you've got the Mega hull, yay Vindi! Hype can go either way, but you've got the Tristan, which you gotta love. I'm a fan of the Maulus and Brutix too.
