(MEHRU, INTAKI PRIME) JAN. 5, 112 ù Two weeks since a massive explosion destroyed a residential estate in MehruÆs wealthy ôDhanvaanö neighborhood there remain far more questions than answers.
It has been confirmed that the estate was one of the known residences of Saxon Hawke, a capsuleer and political dissident who founded the Intaki Liberation Front. The explosion destroyed Mr. HawkeÆs home as well as an ôIntaki Cultural Preservation Centerö which was also located on the five-acre estate.
The blast, which occurred on the three-year anniversary of the ILFÆs founding, killed five people. However, DNA tests to determine the identities of the bodies recovered from the blast debris proved inconclusive due to extreme radiation contamination.
No one has seen or heard from Mr. Hawke since the explosion, leading to much speculation about his well-being and the fate of the corporation he led. Sumerio Rayej, a member of the ILFÆs ôIllorenö or highest level of leadership, said the blast, while shocking, did not come as a complete surprise.
ôHe has made many enemies in the three years he has championed Intaki independence,ö Mr. Rayej said. ôIt was surely just a matter of time before something like this happened.ö
A confidential police memo leaked to the media indicates that authorities believed the cultural center was the staging ground for a terrorist attack planned on Federal Defense Union targets in the Intaki System. The explosion could have been the accidental discharge of a bomb being prepared for the attack. A police spokeswoman would not comment on the memo or confirm its authenticity.
It was known that, twice in the last year, local police executed search warrants at the cultural center looking for contraband weapons. It is widely rumored that the center served as a training facility for anti-Federation militants. However, neither search resulted in any conclusive finding.
Mr. Hawke kept a public journal outlining his thoughts and plans. In one recent post he wrote: "I can hold little hope of any good coming from the Gallente Federation. With Jacus Roden as the new president, I fear that the only course to a free Intaki will be a bloody one."
The ILF and its supporters deny that Mr. Hawke actually planned any violent attacks, however. Corelous Alterrian, an Amarr national who once served in the ILF, said such a plan would have been out of character for Mr. Hawke.
ôI know Hawke. He would have never used a bomb for anything. His way is of peaceful secession,ö Mr. Alterrian said. ôThere is no way he would draw first blood and even when the fight started he would from his end do everything he could to lessen the effect of the fight.ö
In fact, The Eve Observer has learned that in the days prior to his disappearance, Mr. Hawke had met informally with a representative of the Federal Defense Union to discuss possible peaceful means of moving forward. Jianni Sotaku, heiress of the Sotaku Estate and a commander among the militia corp Eleutherian Guard, said the meeting was ôquite friendly.ö
Ms. Sotaku, who has expressed concerns that the FDU might be unfairly blamed for the attack on Mr. Hawke, said there might be other, internal elements at work.
ôIn the days prior, there appeared to be some conflict between certain factions within the Intaki Liberation community,ö she said. ôIntaki Pure does appear to be more in their stance.ö
Jyotmimana Karana, a director of Intaki Pure, called Ms. SotakuÆs allegationÆs ôbaseless and slanderous,ö adding that his corp and the ILF enjoy mutually positive standings.
ôI may not have agreed with all of SaxonÆs policies and I certainly did not approve of everyone he made allegiances with, but his accomplishments for the benefit of the Intaki people cannot be denied,ö Mr. Karana said. ôHis death is a great tragedy and it no doubt came at the hands of those who seek to continue the domination of Intaki culture by outside influences.ö
Continues...

Mr. Karana went on to say that members of the FDU and the Caldari Militia stand to gain from Mr. HawkeÆs death, although for different reasons.
ôThe Federalists have always hated Saxon and have worked to oppose him. His life has been threatened by them many times in the past. Framing Saxon as a terrorist and taking him out of the equation once and for all would be a great victory for them,ö Mr. Karana said. ôThe Caldari would also benefit from Saxon's death, especially if we look to blame the Federation. The ILF has teetered in its neutrality far longer than some would like. Giving them a reason to join up with state forces would give the Caldari CEO's the push they need to secure the claims on Intaki-inhabited space once and for all.ö
Until such time as the mystery of Mr. HawkeÆs disappearance has been solved, members of the ILF have pledged to continue working toward his goal of a sovereign Intaki nation.
In keeping with Intaki tradition, there will be no memorial service until the body is identified and properly prepared for interment.

Troubling times for our Federation. For when the mainstream disagrees with one man for having a view they don't agree with, they just assassinate him? This is a strange Union we live in today.
He was a sincere man, even if he was a bit too close-minded towards the greater ideals of the people and country. We at the Guard hope the perpretrators are brought to justice, for terrorism is never a tolerable act in any society, and this cowardly act should not be allowed to pass unpunished.
Still, I personally believe this will have moot effect on the cause of Intaki independence, because it rests on the wishes of the people, and not a single capsuleer.

Mehru? That's only a couple of hours' drive from Calluya, where I grew up. You have my condolences for the loss of your leader.
Karana, however, you - you do not have my respect. The vulture-like way in which you immediately used his death to further your own small-minded, racist goals was tasteless and disgusting. Consider yourself KOS. -----

My fondest wish that he is safely elsewhere. Whilst we have often bitterly disagreed over the best future of our homeworld, I respect his conviction and resolve. I have asked my contacts to verify that no actions were taken by the Dust of Intaki or by the Intaki Resistance Armada. Thus far, I am confident that no sanctioned attack occurred and I doubt that any cell would have engaged in such a rogue operation, despite our differences of opinion.
I sincerely hope that he has not fallen afoul of one of the Great Unclean's covert operatives. No one deserves such treatment and I thought they had ceased such actions on our world. Worse still, there is of course the possibility that this is a purely homegrown act of terrorism. Certainly we have seen such since the occupation of our system, but again, I had thought them mostly passed.
Such a waste regardless of the cause...
In the event that his vessel was destroyed, I have sent word to various spiritual leaders with whom I am still comfortably acquainted to be vigilant for his reincarnation.

How typical. A person that is considered as a "positive light" is cause for wanton bloodshed. You Fractionists don't change.
If ill became of him, let's see what we can do to keep his dream alive by supporting the Intaki people. You'll get a better response with blankets than with blasters.
And the last thing Intaki needs is more pirates and terrorists running around. Stay in Kamela where we can keep an easy eye on you please.

Perhaps you didn't intend to, beklaand, but your murderous pledge does much to prove my point. The forces of the Federation have proven time and again that they will resort to violence as their first response to anything but unquestioning loyalty.
Your oppressive and heavy handed methods are precisely the sort of thing that Saxon was working to free the Intaki people from.

Edited by: John Revenent on 06/01/2010 04:04:22 The disappearance of Mr. Hawke is not beneficial to the Caldari or the Ishukone Corporation, what was missed is that Caldari interests were represented in the informal meeting. As I was also involved in these talks with Miss. Sotaku and Saxon stated that he was being followed and I got the impression he was in danger, by two possible parties both working for the Caldari State or the Gallente Federation.
I hope the people responsible are found and punished accordingly, and will do everything in my power to make sure this rings true.

When I heard about this, I was deeply shocked. Mr. Hawke was one of the few people in the universe with whom you could have an intelligent conversation in Intaki language only. He is in my thoughts when I'm not meditating. And sometimes, when I'm staring at the lotus in my holo-screensaver, I get the sensation that he might be alive.
I have some business connections in Placid. With them I tried to find out if Hawke's ISK account has been accessed, but according to my sources only his wife has been using it. I suggest that if anyone sees Mr. Hawke buying something from you, please relieve us from this anguish and inform us that he is alive.

First, my condolences not just to the friends and family of Saxon Hawke but also to the other unnamed parties killed or injured in the blast.
It remains to be seen who is responsible for this action, although the possibilities seem to be endless. The Federation? Intaki Seperatists seeking to smear their enemies? Perhaps one of Ishukones competitors wish to stir up chaos in their sphere of interest?
Whoever is responsible, this was a disgusting and heinous act.

I guess the main question is, what now?
Did he have a second that we can contact to coordinate aid going into Intaki? He wanted to promote economic growth into the region. How can we keep that going?

The procedure for requesting ILF assistance in delivering aid to the Intaki Homeworld remains unchanged. Our research, manufacturing, and other efforts to stimulate the local economy continue unabated.
Joint efforts already underway between the ILF and other groups should proceed as usual. Specific questions can be directed to AncientGuardian or other ILF contacts as the need arises.

While I do not know Mr Hawke personally, I am saddened by this news.
However, I will point out that this wouldn't be the first time Mr Hawke has died; he is after all, a capsular.
Unless there was a vastly sophisticated Medical facility, capable of producing a Clone (Which would also be illegal as Cloning is strictly policed, and as mentioned, law enforcement have searched the premises in the past) it is highly likely that upon detonation of any explosive device, Mr Hawke would have simply, reanimated elsewhere.
I would therefore draw the conclusion that Mr Hawke is in hiding. There may not be any "mysterious" reason behind this, perhaps a simple complication or miscalculation has left him with lesser Skill points than before and is currently undergoing intensive training to bring him up to par? Perhaps surgery was required? This is all but speculation, of course. Further evidence of his survival is that he is still in actual control of the Intaki Liberation Front Corporation.
I would be focusing on what caused an explosion of such magnitude; I have looked at Satellite feeds of the area from the morning of the 22nd, and have reached no conclusions on whether the explosion was internal or from a projectile fired from an external entity. ------------------------------------ - Ans Blix The battle of Will over Reason

Sadly, the technology to conduct transcranial burning scans outside the capsule is not well advanced. While I and others have been working on such technology, unless he was in an appropriate medical device at the time, reincarnation via cloning is unlikely.
I say unlikely as it is remotely possible that the ILF had secret access to such technology, but this I very much doubt. If Mr. Hawke is alive, it is most likely by virtue of being in a fortunate location at the time of the explosion.
I have, as of yet, no inkling of any IRA or DOI involvement in this matter. I hope that it can be resolved swiftly.

As Apollonius stated, I am acting leader in Saxons absence, no mater how long, and no mater the reason.
I carry the ILF's Flag the same way Saxon did, I follow the same dream that Saxon followed.
ILF will continue operations as normal, same as before Saxon's home was destroyed. We will hold off on a memorial and any other form of 'C Level' Leadership changes until Saxons fate has been determined by Authorities.
Saxon's position in Intaki, between the different authority figures (Federation, Caldari, and Local Intaki) is delaying investigations, as each party is trying to claim jurisdiction in the investigation, such is politics. Since We are simply POD Pilots, and 'Coworkers' Of Saxon, Local authorities are not permitting me access to the area, so far, all authority figures have basically stated that my license as a pilot from CONCORD does not permit me to investigate.

Both; My understanding is that, since the Caldari State has once held occupation of Intaki for a long enough time, they still have their own people on Intaki Prime, Because there is a possibility that Caldari may or may not be involved, either from Ishukone or the Caldari Navy, they want to investigate as well. So far, neither party has pointed fingers at each other as to cause, all governments are simply trying to determine if any fatalities involve their own people.

That is better clarification that before.
Another 3 points i wish to make. If, reanimation was achieved in this case, the Cloning facility would require the pilot to register and undergo a full medical. These records are accessible by next of kin, and in this case, Corporation Command, I would suggest checking with your local Concord Bureau. Also, if no clone was activated, I believe Corporation Command who recieve a letter from Concord stating that reanimation in this case had failed and that Mr Hawke had indeed been lost. Since you have states that he is "missing" and not dead, i assume you haven't recieve such a letter? As a Corporation, you do have access to the site. Ground zero, i assume, didn't belong to Mr Hawke, but it was Corporation Property (this can be ammended with a little paper pushing), this allows for a seperate investigate team of your choosing, to work on the site to determine the cause of the incident. The Corporation can also get access to the bodies stating that they are required for funeral arangements, and i'm sure sufficent time for anautopsy can be found within the time of recieving and burial. ------------------------------------ - Ans Blix The battle of Will over Reason

Oh hey!
I just had a thought. Maybe it wasn't a bomb.
Unles you found evidence of an explosive? If you haven't, consider the possibility of a mass driver. Someone with a tractor beam and an asteroind and a good ballistics computer could have done it.

While the circumstances are regrettable, I take solace in the ILF's recognition that the Caldari State has personnel on Intaki Prime. Hi.
Back to my pet theory.
Impacts produce distinctive "shock-metamorphic" effects that allow impact sites to be distinctively identified. The inspectors should be looking for a layer of brecciated rock at the site. You might also find a lot of rocks fused together and a good amount of "tektites." Additionally, you'll need to look for microscopic pressure deformations of minerals. These include fracture patterns in crystals of pyrite and veldspar; and formation of high-pressure materials such as diamond, derived from graphite or other carbon compounds, or "shistovite", derived from isogen. Given the radiation, I would say that the if it was an impact, you'll probably find some signifigant traces of Kernite.
Is there any way to find if there was an ore hauler in the system on that day? A hauler or frieghter or even a decent warship with a good tractor beam could pull along a decent sized asteroid and "lob" it on a correct trajectory. Firey Kernite, say in the 500m range would mostly break apart in reentry, but could produce an airburst explosion of this magnitude and leave no bomb traces (anyone know off-hand the gravity and atmospheric density of Intaki?).
I know rocks and I stare at imapct craters on rocks all day in my favorite belt. To me, this looks like someone made themselves a mass driver.
That one was a little more than .02 ISK. But it shows I didn't sleep through Astrogeology 201.
Ok. So can we get an update on the investigation?
Thanks.
