I know you can sell/trade one but do game mechanics allow you to biomass one as well?

This isn't WoW where you can get away with crap like that. This is EvE Online. The GMs will catch you. ___________________________________ "In the land of predators, the lion does not fear the jackal." -Dexter |

Edited by: Eden Escrow on 06/01/2010 16:08:58 Is there also a fine attached to the character when they get caught? I ask because we have a corp mate that went from positive 500m to negative 200m, but what it looked like was that he must have bought 500m isk, and the GM's took that away, and then added an additional 200m fine on top of it. I mean, you know, how else would you end up with a negative isk balance if all they do is take the isk that the person bought away from them? So they must attach a fine to the character too.
I'm a little surprised that the fine (if there is one) doesn't attach to which ever character in their account they are playing instead of just one that can be biomassed away. But maybe they don't want to get rid of subscribing paying players for buying isk, just teach them a lesson, since if they attached the fine to the account, many newer players I would think would simply quit playing feeling that they'd take too long to earn that 200m isk to pay it off.
I suspect that it's a whole lot easier for the GM's to track with a game that has about 40,000 players that are playing at any one time than it might be for some of the larger MMO's that might have hundreds of thousands or millions of players playing at the same time.

Your buddy bought 500mil, purchased something ingame for 200mil, then got 500mil removed by CCP.
Voila - neg 200!

Thanks, I didn't buy ISK, next time leave your assumptions at the door.
I think it shouldn't be possible to biomass or trade a character with a negative wallet and need to know if it can be done before I make a proposal that CCP make it so you cannot do so, thereby making your actions have consequences.
Seems pretty stupid to me that they will take the ill gotten isk but you can then biomass the offending character and make a new one or trade/sell on the character bazaar.

You can't trade/sell it on the bazaar unless it has a positive wallet. It's one of the required disclosures. Also, I'm not sure what difference it would make if you couldn't biomass the character - you can just leave it inactive and on the account and use it as your forum alt if you like.
Or are you suggesting that it also be the character that you *must* train (which is to say, you can't pause training on that character until wallet > 0)?

A pretty valid assumption, as the only way to get a negative balance is for a GM to remove it.
Please explain, if you did'nt buy isk, how you came to have a negative balance?

I thought I saw you had to disclose it but didn't see anything saying it had to be positive, must have missed that.
I'm still working on the proposal, didn't start until I knew that it was possible for someone to biomass a character with a negative wallet. I'm still considering the penalties for a negative wallet and preventing training on that account is something I might propose along with preventing trading items to another character in station, maybe preventing it from joining a player corporation (if not already in one) and contract use. Trying to make the character either work it off, killing rats/taking missions or through receiving isk from an alt and making it hard to move any ill gotten goods off the account, though it isn't impossible.

I don't have a negative balance, I asked because I don't know and have no way to test it that I know of and would actually want to try. All of my alts do things and I'm not willing to biomass any of them nor do something against the EULA.

piece of advice:
Don't ever give director roles to that corpmate, for 2 reasons: 1) Having dealt with Isk-sellers, chances are high that your corpmate's account info is in the hands of said Isk-seller. It has happened before that an Isk buyer had his wallet cleared out soon after (and not by CCP). It wouldn't be cool to find out that the isk-seller also cleared out the corp wallet.
2) Can you really trust a person with all of your corpmates' combined efforts after he behaved like this ?

Thought it was possible for smuggling contraband to run your wallet into the negative if you got caught with enough of it?

That, and being stupid with buy orders. With Margin Trading trained, it's possible to run yourself into the negative, since only part of the total cost of the buy order is placed into escrow. -- "Like sending messages in bottles. Bottles with superior firepower." |

That's incorrect. Once the money in escrow has run out, the isk needed for the order will be taken directly from your wallet. If there's not enough isk in your wallet, the order will be cancelled. So you can never buy more than you have isk for (in escrow and wallet combined).
