Hi, I now was several times scanning and I'm wondering if the IDs of the cosmic signature are always the same. For example you find a signature with ID XYZ-174 in system A it's a gravimetric site with a large omber field. Days later you find in system B again a signature with ID XYZ-174 - so is it possible that this ID is always a large omber field or are the IDs always randomized?
I searched before with google and so on but couldn't find any hints on this issue. Sorry if this is a stupid question :)

No idea - but I wondered the same, so for the past 2 months I have kept track of every sig I have seen, and the same one hasnt cropped up twice.
I've had the same first 3 letters quite a few times, and they have been for different signature types, never mind for being different things of the same type!
I would suspect that they are random, but until I get a duplicate I wont know for sure! |

From what iv read around and all, everything gets its own ID when it spawns. But that ID only lasts till the next dt. So you can try scanning your friends ship, check its ID. After dt itl be a different one. Same thing with complexes i guess.

should be enough to change system to change your id¦s imho... same anomaly will have another id for your friend as far as i know.

Edited by: Skippermonkey on 07/01/2010 11:23:26 ID's are assigned to each signature in a system.... and change over downtime.
so 'XYZ-174' is not 'XYZ-174' the next day
edit - scanning with a friend you will see the same ID's to the same signature. Letting each other know which ID you are scanning/have scanned can cut down on the scanning time of a system, (especially true when in a WH looking for an exit). Look at me, im using the INTERNETS! |

In my experience the IDs do have a tendency to change after a session change. Or at least they used to they may have been fixed.
Im not entirely certain how they are generated because it is true that as long as people stay in system the IDs are the same amongst several pilots. New pilots can also jump into the system and get the same IDs. But if they jump out and back, dock, or switch ships there is a chance the IDs may change.
Best to confirm with wingmen that the IDs you see are the same.

After living in w-space for several months, from what I can tell, the ids are random. For sites that persist through downtime, they do get a new id, and if the server restarts mid-day, all sites get a new id. This is one of the w-space daily 'chores'; rescanning all of our known sites to get the new ids before you can identify newly spawned sites or WHs. Because of this, server restarts really suck in w-space.
