I'm sure it's possible. The ship could stay stationary while the pilot is out (maybe that's what happens when you log off in space). If necessary, maybe a crewmember or the pilot himself could manually navigate during downtime. There may be backup controls somewhere for basic, minimal navigation.

Judging by my past experience, I'd say a mixture of autocannon shells and high-energy plasma.

But I subsist on a liquid diet of carebear tears
