Edited by: Arson Wulf on 07/01/2010 10:14:48 Hmm it hasn't posted my thread. Sorry if this is a duplicate, the forum software is confusing me. :(
I'm looking for a Corp to join after being sucked back into the game. I'm finishing off the tutorial quests but decided when I am out of Hadaugonag or however it's spelt, that I'll go into Exploration. Still working towards getting Hacking and Salvaging (when they eventually appear on my skills list) but what role do Explorers play in corps?
Currently the only useful exploration I can do is finding and analysing the composition of Asteroids or beating up the odd NPC pirate. I also have a Probe which is really good for scanning stuff but not flying it because it hasn't got room for weapons (2 Heavy points compared to my Rifter's 4, I'll be stuffed if I warp up to a signature and it's full of pirates!)

I usually make at least 10 million from high sec radar sites which is great for a new player so not really.

Yeah, thing is that the competition for sites in highsec is murderous, so you must travel to deserted highsec regions to have any chance to find anything of value. Let me put it like this, in most highsec regions the chance of finding a valuable site are extremely low. You might find one eventually, and it may be profitable, but you'll have spend so much time searching that the isk/hour ratio is very low. Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? High sec radar sites, due to incredibly low amount of people trying to find them, are very easy to find.
Of course if you want to do plexes with your corp, someone has to scan for those, but it's pretty much just corps that live in wormholes that need someone searching for sites that often.
Usually explorer type characters can double as great scouts for pvp fleets, flying around in a cov ops probing down hostiles and keeping an eye on them.

Edited by: Arson Wulf on 07/01/2010 15:04:42 I'm in Hi-sec until I do the tutorials then will probably go midway down the security ladder when I'm used to breaking into pirate dishes and stealing their data. No hacking jobs of breaking into player-run outposts or ships then as a sabateur or something along those lines?
When my hacking skills are sorted I plan on heading down SpecOps certification if thats the right path for scanning and stealth.

Hacking and Archeology are strictly for cracking containers in exploration sites. For scanning and stealth you need all the scanning skill and cloaking. Next step would be a covop frigate. I recommend you don't mess about in lowsec without a cloak. You can't 'break into player-run outposts or ships'. Well, you can steal ships that have been abandoned or that you manage to 'POS bowl' out of a POS. 'sabateur', well you can harass the enemy by scouting out vulnerable targets and vectoring in a fleet (or yourself in a combat ship), blow up mining operations, that kinda thing. Any nomadic or wormspace based group worth it's salt will place a high value on exploration and scouting skills.
