Edited by: rensPriceCheck on 07/01/2010 11:21:19 Hello, Market Discussion board.
I am a new trader. I have been getting a lot of trade tips from my mate who plays EVE and got me into it.
I have just started buying from Sell Orders in Jita. Buying Tech II modules and best-nameds mainly. I then haul them to Rens to sell on Sell Orders. The profit I'm getting is sh**house.
I don't know whether it is the fact I am buying from Sell Orders or the fact I am buying each module in sets of 10 or so. I want to maintain my two accounts on PLEX's and make enough ISK monthly to keep these accounts alive and fund my PvP BC's and BS's on my main account.
So, now I'm thinking about mining: a very straight-forward, money-up-front trade. Will I be able to do the above if I mine? I hear about these guys trading every day and get about 1bill PER DAY. This is just alien to me. I am lucky to get around 20mill a day profit.
So now I have the option of either sticking to trading and getting better or give mining a shot and mine in lowsec. Can mining keep my accounts alive? I know trading can but I don't think it's right for me... Crying or Very sad
Thanks, guys. I don't usually resort to asking on forums or getting help in general, but trading is really doing my head in!

Well, since you are the first player who asks how to become rich in an instant, I'll give you some advice:
* Get your credit card out and sell GTCs for 400M. You'll be a selfmade billionaire in a day!
On the other hand, you can start by NOT buying from sell orders and find a new trade route.
Those guys, who boast to make a billion per day have the amount n-th times in market orders. If you have billions at the market and doing only 20 mill a day, something is wrong. BTW: 20 mill profit per day = 2 PLEXes at the end of the month!!!
Oh ... and another tip: start mining! I hear people making 100 millions per hour (of course with four accounts and an armada of hulks)
Start slow. Update your spreadsheets often. Use buy orders. Sell high at mission hubs. Keep away from Jita!

U need to earn far more then 600mil by month if you want to sustain 2 accounts... yes u can do it one month but if you make 600mil and spend it how will u make next 600mil for next month ? For trade u need money to make money. Question is how much money do u need to make 600 mil a month extra u cant make 600mil out of 0 isk every month it is stupid. Better pay 2 months or so untill u have few billions so u can pay 2 accounts and have some isk on the side so u can continue to increase your profits on the market.

You should take a look at the Beginner's Guide To Making ISK. [Aussie players: join channels ANZAC or AUSSIES] |

I've never seen a new player who managed to play for free.
All I have seen is new players get more and more desperate and resort to begging and scamming as their free trial is running out.
Veteran players with ample free time can play for free, but in almost all cases working at a job an extra hour or two a month and buying a subscription is far more efficient than grinding isk.

You need money to make money with trade. Someone making a bil a day has 100bil in their wallet or market stocks worth that much. There is really no secret to trading. Buy low, sell high and volume.

Keep in mind also that if it were easy, nobody would need to pay for their subscriptions. In my experience, those who see the most / best profits are those who have been playing for quite some time and have maxed out the appropriate skills, be it for manufacturing, trading, what have you.
I've basically given up on the idea of a 'free ride' for now and am just focusing more on the 'ride' part. I found maintaining a station-parked alt to be pretty boring and have decided to train him up a bit more for running missions and such to help with standings and getting access to R&D for datacores and what-not.
It's a complex game, but for me that's the draw. Complex in-game markets intrigue me and this is by far the most complex player-run market I've come across yet.

The minute my Raven got all support/shield tanking/missiles skills to IV and some to V, i was able to play for free by doing 1 mission a day. Normally i play more then that, so i am able to pay for my Plex and slowly gather money for whatever i want extra.

This is kinda bordering on the MD discussion forum really but...
Out of all the "professions" I've tried in EvE (with the exception of pirating), trade is the most lucrative that I have tried. I've missioned and mined and I get bored doing them after a while. So I kinda flip beteen those and trade. I've also been into production found this can be a nice earner done in bulk. I hope to get back into this again sometime.
I mostly margin trade in one of the trade hubs - it's highly competative, I have one char doing it and able to have nearly 300 max orders; I run 2 accounts via PLEX/GTC's and still make isk on top of that for "toys".
I consider myself a poor trader to be quite honest and I don't make billions or even a billion a day - but I do make isk and that's a fact. It's not at all hard to make 30m a day from trading but it's all about how much ISK you have to invest. The more you have and the better skills you have you can place more buy orders etc having less in escrow etc...
On top of this is the time factor. I think I spend too much time sitting in a station compared to how much I make - but I play EvE for the social element and chat to friends alot.
I'm more than happy to help you or anyone else out with advice and general ideas on what to buy, where to go and so forth - what I won't give is a free lunch as that has no benefit to you.
1st tip is to use the MD forum. 2nd tip is to join the "SCC-Lounge" channel.
So, feel free to hook me up in game - as long as you're not a total muppet
Fly safe,
Fes.
