since the new patch today, i've bin unable to select medium shaders, the drop-down list only allows me to select high or low, my computer can't handle high, so i am forced to play with low settings.
is this a bug, or is this intended?

could you please file a bug report which includes your dxdiag file.
For specific problems like this it is always better to send in a bug report, there are always devs roaming the forums but mostly not the ones that can help with a specific problem. __________________________ CCP Sputnik CCP Core Engineering Software Engineer

The medium shader has been removed due to the small number of players using it and the complexity and time required to maintain it.

Buhwa?
I get the business, software and logistical reason for this. If you'd asked if we agreed I probably would have even said yes.
But what the hell?! You never asked us. I sure as hell don't trust your usage statistics. You don't even know I run on Linux according to those things?! Just because we don't use it LOT doesn't mean that some people won't pipe up and say it's vital for the 20% of the time they do use it. Especially those poor bastards who don't trawl these forums for a glimmering chance to stop a feckup. (My CEO is Really complaining about the New Evemail for his administration taks but he was having a Kid while the Forum discussions took place)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not biting your head of Nimbus (please dont hide because we/i get upset), it would be stupid to assume your responsible for such a large action. Nor am I giving a real reason this second as to why to keep the med shared (Except I used it quite a bit when ratting to keep FPS in case of attack but still have pretties).
But you guys did so well at communicating for Dominion, don't balls it up now

I would expect CCP to know what people use better than anyone else, since they collect the data. I can quess why most don't use it, since if you want quality you go for the high shader and for performance you use the low shader. A modern comp should be able to handle high shader in every situation anyway and people with ancienct PCs don't care about graphics, so they go for performance and low shader.

Still it is a good idea to actually announce such changes in advance, so those affected by it won't **** a brick on patch day.

Maybe people dont use it because of other problems in the game... like some people tone down settings in big fleet engagements.. but since big fleet engagements are currently broken - no one has to adjust these settings... There are many things that can lead to such skewed data...

I dont recall CCP ever asking me what settings I used?
How do you know that a "small" number of players use it?
BTW...Im ****ing ****ed. Im forced to use "low" now which looks like ****, while "high" wont work right.

Edited by: Kile Kitmoore on 22/01/2010 03:59:42 Maybe next you can "collect information" on how many people have the sound turned off. Oh, don't forget you won't be able to check how many people have the sound muted or speakers turned all the way down so add some fictional number into the final collection data. You could be the first MMO with no sound support, think how uncomplicated development would become without sound.
In all seriousness you took away a middle ground between graphics and performance, which this game so BADLY needs. My biggest problem is how callus this comes off, this post and a one liner in a patch note is not a good way to communicate such a large change. My guess, you made a snap decision off bad information. My hope, people communicate their utter disgust with both the decision and how it was communicated and your pressured to reverse this change.

I also used the medium shaders, as most linux users use this setting. So where are you guys getting you usage numbers? As not telling the people about such a drastic change I believe is a poor business decision.
As far as I know we are the paying customer, and we should at least get a better response than we have received here in this thread.
As far as I am concerned this is poor customer service. Remember that we pay for you guys salary. |

LOL!!
I'm actually one of those players that has the sound turned off, but I agree with your statement. This really was a very poor move by CCP. ___________________________________________________ ...and the medium shader setting had to go because? |

I DON'T GET IT medium shaders looked better than high shaders, especially on high contrast ships (ie falcon/harpy. why not remove the low shader settigs or even the high or...wait!! WHY WOULD YOU FIX SOMETHING THAT WASN'T BROKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE AND FU*K SH*T UP IN THE PROCESS!! more fail than retributions i tell you |
