Quick question, gonna use mining for an example.
lets say you plan to make an mining forman/mining director/in a orca alt to gain the bonus
but in order to get the mining gang bonus, u just need to be ganged with someone who has mining gang bonus correct? no orca, no modual, nothing.
if this is the case, could you just make a new character on another account and gang them make them leader and get the bonus?
also if you train the skills yourself, would you get them if you gang up with the alt and have them do nothing but float in space?
thanks sry for weird wording

Only if the alt has suitable leadership skills.

I'll add that the booster doesn't have to be a leader.
* Default fleet booster is fleet commander * Default wing booster is wing commander * Default squad booster is squad commander.
To assign the booster role to somebody else, right-click current booster and select Revoke Booster, then re-assign it.
With my alt, I'm the squad leader and he's a squad member. I revoke squad booster from myself (squad leader) and assign squad booster to my alt (squad member). This allows me to warp us both around if necessary, and still get the bonuses. I have Leadership 2 so it is a valid fleet (green checkmark).

sorry i just read mining director, it says 100% bonus to mining link moduals, that means one of the characters in a gang has to be in a approriate ship and have the gang mod running in order to get this bonus correct?

Ships that can fit the mining link module(s) usually are not suitable for mining, so you NEED at least two people anyway (the ship with the link and the ship that actually does the mining), so you need two guys anyway.
Worse, if you only have two characters, since training for the link to give out respectable bonuses (L4 Mining Director) actually takes longer than training for a Retriever, and traning for decent bonuses (mining mindlink - director 5 plus cybernetics 5) takes about as much as traning for a Hulk, so you're better off just using 2 barges instead of one barge and one ship with a mining link, since you actually get MORE ORE PER MINUTE with the 2-barge combo.
You need at least 4, preferably even 6 pilots in the gang until it becomes feasible to use a dedicated link ship (link ship, hauler, 4 miners would be a decent enough combo ; alternatively, you couls use Orca as both linkship and hauler plus at least 3 barges).

To get the bonus from the gang module someone needs to be running the module. To get the basic gang bonuses no modules are required.
For example: Leadership provides a bonus to targeting times, Mining Foreman provides a bonus to mining yield. To get those bonuses you simply need to have the skills and a valid fleet.
To get a bonus to mining laser cycle time, range or cap usage you would need to fit the proper module. The Mining Director skill is for using those modules. If you don't plan to use those modules then don't worry about the skill.

Mining Director is still useful for using a Mining Mindlink implant, as even without a gang link the implant boosts miners 5% more than Mining Foreman skill alone.
