Here I was, Mining away with a fully insured T1 Covetor, and a SINGLE Catalyst turned up. It was flashing red, and I thought "Uh oh, a Hulkageddon ganker", so I hit the dock button quickly, and was subjected to fire that only JUST managed to penetrate my hull. I warped away and returned to the belt to find Concord and a Cat wreck.
The player now had a -10 rating AND he was a corp member of over a month. WHY Solo attack a ship with one Cat and what do you think he learned from this?

Not to attack ships that are mining within dock range.

I'm all for Hulkageddon, but really...trying to take out a Cov, that is likely going to cause no grief or very little ISKIES for the ganker is quite pathetic. I even told him he was unlucky to perhaps ease his feelings. If I hadn't been aligned I would have accepted it and told him "well done", but this was a new low for PVP in my opinion.

I remember ganking a Retriever back when rigs were expensive. Destroyed his rigged retriever, my losses were covered and the smack in local was quite enough to cover my costs. A few days later he engaged my covops outside a station while I was docking, "I'm not having this," I thought to myself. After an agonising 30 second delay before I could get into something with a gun on it, I undocked.
His rigged Caracal did not fare well. In fact, I was so annoyed by this random act of violence against my covops, I declared war upon their corporation. This obviously rustled some feathers, and my other alt reported a gatecamp on a couple of occasions. I was too smart for that old chestnut, though.
Another day or so wore on, and one of the fellows from that corporation was clearly tired with my presence. I persuaded him to give me 50m to drop the dec.
tl;dr: ganking barges is not always a waste of time.

One of my first suicide ganks was taking a retriever out with a catalyst (before concord buff/rig changes). Destroyed 80m worth of rigs, got some nice smack, and the next day they were still mad enough to lose a 7 ship BC and cruiser gang to a combination of concord + my canflipping CEO flying thorax.
As for the ganker in the op, the moral of the story is to fit a scram.

I ganked a Hulk worth about 450m and not a single word... he just rage logged :(
