i know it sounds a bit lame, but i really dont think there are any alliances who strike real fear right now.... well, maybe one.. 
but if i had to call it though, id put my vote down for IT at the moment, simply down to their sheer size, i guess they are living up t the whole relentless thing at last. Only this time with killmails rather than awful postings and videos

BoB used to be the most "feared" back in my starting days, i think IT probably are still the guys i wouldn't mess with due to size, as nova said...

IT alliance for sure. They went from losing everything and most of their members. Kicked to the curb with no money and little activity after haargoth betrayed them. They then go and stomp SPLOT to the ground and are taking Fountain by storm.

Red alliance was a tough opponent and can never be written off.
IT alliance have proved that strength, grit and determination will ultimately succeed.
Goons will win at any cost, in game or out.
TCF (When they had Section 13), provided style, elegance and force in a tidy bundle.
PL showed flair by being small and mighty (I hope they pull through as an alliance)
MM have not been kicked out of there home Region for years, which is amazing.
XDeathX have grown to be the owners of the whole of the drone regions (Although I do remember auguring over a 8/10 complex in GW, might not do that now  )
I think that each alliance provides fear in there own way and its individual to whoever the enemy may be.

Most respected by me: Solar Fleet. Hands down russians knows how to fight and they bring it.Also, honorably adversaries, no smack talkers,no caod warriors, respect for that. TCF is not far also.

Solar Fleet, I've seen them in action and they know how to give you a good fight based on their skill rather than their numbers.
IT deserves some consideration as well, good bunch of pvpers but their main driving force right now is plain and simply their sheer numbers.
The best FC is also worth mentioning as he is the brains behind an alliance's fleet. Best FC hands down is Monti Reagen/Play Dead. Even though he crawls into his closet and emo cuts if things dont go his way, he has FC'ing down to an science. His increadable skill allows him to take on fleets three times his size and emerge victorious.
