Will Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing increase the range that my Sentries can hit at, as in their maximum range?
Orà
Will it increase how far out I can control my Combat Drones?
Orà
Is it both????

It just increases drone control range.
For sentries, it's how far away from you the target can be and still let you tell your drones to engage it. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Well, it also effects what Ewar drones you can use __________________________________________

Edited by: Nuthyn on 11/01/2010 06:16:41 So, my Guarde IIs can hit out to (24 + Lvl 5 X 3)39kms if I get this skill to Lvl 5???
Are there any other skills that will increase my Sentries' range????
Any modules???
I am curious how far out I can shoot my Guarde IIs????

No. Your sentriess can hit out to [base optimal] * (1+.05+ Drone Sharpshooting lvl) + [falloff + 2]km, which for Garde IIs means either 24*1.2+24 = 52.8km or 24*1.25+24 = 54km depending on whether you've trained sharpshooting to V or not. However, that far into falloff, you'll do crap damage – the optimal ranges will be 28.8 and 30km, respectively.
The thing is, there are three different ranges at play here, with different skills governing them.- The drone's optimal range determines how far out a drone can properly hit its target. This is affected by the Drone Sharpshooting skill (+5% optimal per level). You can also fit Drone Scope Chip rigs or Omnidirectional Tracking Link modules to improve it.
- The drone's activation proximity is how close the target must be to the drone in order for a drone to start firing at it. This is a fixed 250km for sentries, a few km for most other drones, with no skill governing it.
- Then there's the ship's drone control range, which determines how far away the target can be from the ship and still let the ship tell the drone to engage that target. This is affected by the Scout Drone Operation skill (+5km per level), by the Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing skill (+3km per level), and in some cases by the ship skill level, eg the Heavy Assault Ship skill for the Ishtar (+5km per level). You can also fit Drone Control Range Augmentor rigs or Drone Link Augmentor modules to improve it.
The two you need to really keep apart are the first and the last one, since the middle one is handled by the game AI: on the one hand, the distance between the drone and the target, and on the other, the distance between you and the target. The EWar Drone skill only affects the second, and the drone actually hitting the target is only affected by the first.

Any modules???
You can also fit Drone Scope Chip rigs for another 15% optimal or fit Omnidirectional Tracking Links for 20%. In many cases, though, the real limiting factors will be the tracking (which Omnilinks help with as well) and your drone control range, which in many ships can be less (or even much less) than the drone's optimal range. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Tippia, that post would be a great addition to the wiki as it doesn't explain the sentry behaviour in much detail.

If I am using regular non-sentry drones, should I use an omni or "the one that makes them faster" in my mid slot (I have room from one not both)?

If you're not using sentries never bother with an omni.
And the other one is called a drone navigation computer.

So, if I am using regular combat drones, I should use the Drone Navigation Computer in my empty mid slot instead of the Omni???? I was wondering if the extra tracking would be better thatn the extra speed?

Lies...
Try using a couple of omnis and heavy drones for super win dps on everything, coupled with a couple drone spped mods as well and they'll clear a mission super fast, tracking frigs fine.

Improved tracking is certainly worth having on all drones.
