i wear glasses, and i have ben playing games sense i was 6. i had to have surgery on my eyes 2 times because of some mussel and eye not looking at thing right, both of them were at an early age. i played a lot gameboy back then, and when i started to play on TVs and computer monitors, my eyesight stopped getting worse.

Well, maybe if you hadn't stuck a mollusk in your eye...

Thanks to all who have replied, you've confirmed for me that playing video games is not what i should be worrying about, and that I can continue doing what I love oh so much wasting my life away on MMORPG's :P
But really, thanks. It was an uncertainty of mine which was now been -certified-
And to the guy who posted about his accident. Don't worry I did not take any offence to what you said, and I am sorry to hear about what happened to you; but if you were trying to imply that I was whining on the internet about my 'inferior problem' I would say this only to you...
So what if you had your accident? I am guessing you were probbaly double my age when it happens, just becuase you had to have been unfortunate enough to get involved in an accident doesn't make the fact you can't see any worse than my case of poor eyesight. Try growing up from a child to an adult with impaired vision. I bet I mised out on alot of memorable tings growing up, that... mentally might make my situation just as difficult as yours sir.
I never expected this to have so many replies :) Hope you all enjoyed the discussion and thanks again o7

I have been playing MMOs since I was about 13-14 and my eyes are about proportional to then(I still pass that checkup test a little better or a little worse then I used to).
The only noticeable difference is my spelling has gotten better, my typing has gotten much better and I am less amazed at talking to people on the other side of the world... Though one downside was I try to fix RL problems like fixing a computer problem, just reboot it.
Seriously though, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result was suppose to be a sign of madness.

It's all about starring at the same flat surface for so long. You eyes have muscles that go numb, like any muscles, if you don't exercise them enough. Again, starring at the same flat surface is a quick way to nerf your vision.
You want proper lightning and various objects at various distances to look at every now and then.

been a gamer since I got ZX spectrum in 1989, that's 21 years. no glasses
so computers/tv shouldn't be a problem for eyesight. just make sure you do quick breaks from time to time. sounds stupid but in this regard smoking "helps". well, whitch one it'll be? eyes or lungs? :P

Originally by: 12232 I'm 17 and wear glasses, I have done since I was about 10 years old. After several trips to the opticians over the past few years my eyesight has seriously deteriated and for those who know what I'm talking about my subscriptions are -6.5 in my left eye and -7.0 in my right eye.
The optician was so concerned with the rapid deteriation of my eyesight I had to be tested for diabetes type 2, which I was given the all clear for.
Whenever I am at the opticians after I come home with the results I always get the same nagging off my mother 'You need to stop playing computer games' 'You are stuck in front of that screen day and night' yata yata yata.
The optician said that computer monitors and playing computer games shouldn't have that much of an effect on the eyes, but does anything beg to differ? Curious on your guys' opinions.
Cheers
Blame your mother for having ****ty genetics
24 been using and playing with computers for 12 years if not more and have 20/20 vision.

-6 here in both eyes, been a computer entousiast for as long as I live(24).
Still, every optician over here in Belgium I've been to, has claimed it has nothing to do with looking at screens all day.
Thinking about corrective eye surgery now since I do get the feeling that wearing glasses all day uses more energy than simply having good eye sight

Wasn't there a study a while back that said playing FPS games actually markedly improved a persons perception of different shades of greys? or something __________________
