i want to become a merc in a serious merc corp but due to skill points and lack of experience i keep getting refused and it is ****ing me off, this is the path that i want to follow but yet no real merc corps are willing to accept a trainee. how do they expect you to learn the trade if no one will teach it???

Learn it on your own by joining a corp that trains PvP. Then join a merc corp when you know how to PvP better.
Red vs. Blue and Eve University are both decent outlets for learning PvP.

Join a highsec griefer corp or a lowsec pirate corp for a few months to accrue some PvP experience and skillpoints before trying again. Highsec based pvp corps will be a better choice as it won't screw up your sec status.

My son's still having trouble at 16 months.
true, 3 month old's are often ****ed off though

You can also look up a guy named Javane. I don't remember the name of his corp, but he's starting up a merc corp and is accepting lower SP players that don't meet the requirements of a lot of other merc groups. I can't promise he'll accept you without you having at least a bit of experience in pvp, but it doesn't hurt to ask. |

#1 Join faction warfare
OR
Fly out into 0.0 in a very cheap pvp ship
OR
Fly out into lowsec in a very cheap pvp ship
OR
Join RVB
OR
Join EvE univeristy or some other noob training alliance
#2 Die alot trying to learn how to pvp
#3 Learn something
#4 Post your kills to battleclinic when you actually start producing some (you must also post losses)
#5 Repeat 1-4 until your k/d ratio isnt embarassing.
#6 Apply for membership in a merc group, when asked for credentials link battleclinic
#7 PROFIT??!?

If I'm not mistaken noob mercs was a corp that DJ FunkyBacon on EVE Radio had going for a while for lulz and radio contests.

Red Vs. Blue is a great place to get experience and have a lot of fun doing it. The attitudes there are really good and you'll get to use a lot of ammo any time you want. I'd say it's one of the best things in eve atm.
I'll give you my view on skill points. They define your ability to competently undock a ship. They have nothing to do with how well you actually PVP. I would say all the merc outfits know these things to be true. It's just easier to go about business if you can assume a certain minimum level of undocking competence. It's hard to fit a 3 month old character in a rifter into a RR bs gang to take down a large faction POS. In my experience, if a 'new guy' gets left on the sidelines 3 nights in a row because he can't field enough ship, or if he gets popped over and over in small engagements - interest is lost and the player moves on with a bad taste for the corp.
Most mercs have a secondary account/source of income and the experience to make isk on the side. New guys don't, run out of ships and leave. Short version, the minimums aren't in place because we're elitist jerks, it's because that's what has been seen to work out over time. If you're not ready to solo a L4 mission, then perhaps you're not ready to be a merc either (just an example). Some of our bestest pilots are the ones that have somehow snuck in under the SP/experience bar. 2 of them come to mind immediately. If it's what you want to do, just keep at it, wierd stuff happens in eve all the time.

go to lowsec, go to 0.0, join RVB, and just blow **** up ... when you have built some killboard stats for yourself join a merc corp if you'll want it at that point

A couple of weeks of Factional Warfare is also a very good intro to pvp. Corps involved in FW are often happy to welcome newer players as well.

They are the corp to join if you want every fight to have 9 parts ECM to every 1 part pvp. Every engagement I have had with them (not many) has been rather lulz but they seem to have fun which is the most important part.

Confirming I have had 3 pvp alts graduate successfully from Lana's school.
One recently left Noir. after a very fun few months, the other 2 are now members in high standing of rancer defence league.

Being successful in EVE is based on what you know and what you can do, why would a "serious merc" group take on some rookie, they wouldn't be much of a serious group if they kept taking on rookies now would they? If you want something you'll have to work for it, learn combat, learn game mechanics, learn ships, fittings and ship strategies. GET EXPERIENCE!
