As of a christmas I'm the owner of a set of wireless digital headphones with accompanying microphone, and I've ran into a small issue when attempting to switch during gameplay - the game (or more likely) does not automatically reroute sound, as it does when using a standard speaker connector. Instead, if I want to have the sound in my headphones I have to restart each application which interacts with the sound driver in any way. As most fleets want you to be on voice comms and I don't want that through speakers (due to echoing) and I personally prefer my speakers for music, I switch a lot... And hence I'm restarting the game a lot.
So, my question: Does anyone know of any way to circumvent this? I've found others reporting the same issue when using google but alas, I can't find anything specific on how to SOLVE it, though some mention scripts, API and similar things.

you tried to disable the device you don't want to use ? this forces Vista and apps to route sound over to the device that is enabled
My monitor is a 42" HDMI connected TV, Fleet fights I use headphones like you, eve corrects the sound output for me.

I assume you mean in the "Output Devices" window? If so, that doesn't solve it if the game is already running. In fact, disabling it does jack all - sound continues playing despite the device being disabled. (Skype did reroute output, but game/WMP/Steam did not.)

Turn on your headset before you start any of the applications? If you start the application with it off, it won't recognize it and go to the default setting. I know I have to do the same thing when I used my wireless headset in Windows 7. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Edited by: Sinchai N''Bien on 15/01/2010 14:08:56 I always have my headset turned on and the USB-part plugged in. In games which allow you to choose output device, I can see them both, always. However, as my speakers are routed through hardware (sound card), while the the headset is connected to a USB-slot they are not exclusive to one another, and the sound continues on whichever line it started on.
EDIT:

It will always go to default setting as seen in Output Devices; at least in Vista, I can mark one as Default which is where any program not choosing something else will output. However, changing Default while an application is running makes no difference (nor does actually turning the device off - if it's playing, it'll happily continue playing through a disabled device).
