Edited by: Mara Abraham on 14/01/2010 23:54:20 Greetings:
One of the mistakes I made this evening that I hope to learn from is buying a blue print thinking I have all of the materials only to find out that I'm about 4,000,000 (in minerals; probably a large amount of isk) off.
I read the bill of materials prior to accepting the contract and thought that because the "me" vs. "perfect" was greater meant that I had enough material with stuff left over. I even checked the waste percentage (0.19%) and thought I would still come out ahead.
While I'm busy now mining what I can mine so I don't have to purchase as much of what I'm missing, is there a guide some where of how I can read a bill of materials on a blueprint so I don't make the same mistake again?
Thank you.

the Me vs perfect depends on your skills.
Me means that's how much you need with your current skills to make the stuff, perfect means that's how much you'd need if you had perfect skills with that BP

your explanations are a bit confusing lol. You accepted a blueprint copy from contracts market right??? Then you need to read productivity and material research levels, usually are -4/-4 which means crappier material requirements.
about question: just read it. Theres a "perfect" and "you" tab. If you have perfect skills, then theres only one tab cause "you" and "perfect" are the same lol.
also notice how many units are done per run. Ammunition blueprints usually do some hundreds or thousands. See this on attributes: for example Antimatter Charge S Blueprint says: "produces antimatter charge S [100]". This means each run produces 100 units.
go to bill of materials and it says: pyerite [17] it means it will take 17 units of pyerite each run. So 17 pyerite for 100 units of antimatter S. [max runs per job] lets say its 1500. Then you can order 1500x100 = 150,000 units as much. Of course material requirements will be 150x [17] pyerite which is 8500 pyerite.
Forget about wastege % and the other stuff.

The "Perfect" amounts listed on a BP are if you had the Production Efficiency skill trained to level V. If you don't have PE V, the "You" column is showing the materials required due to your lack of skills, which is an extra 4% per level not trained. This personal waste is separate from the wastage factor from the BP, and cannot be researched away with ME research on the BP.

Greetings:
Thank you for helping me understand my mistake better. Here when I checked prices, being off in 4,000,000 of minerals added up to about the same price if I would just have purchased the Drake (the blueprint was for a Drake) than tried to make it myself.
Thank you.

You'll find that this is the case for most Tech 1 items/ships. Unless you're a large-scale producer, you're almost always better off buying things off the market instead of producing them yourself (especially when you have to use a BPC).

Here's a handy online tool you can use:
Battleclinic Manufacturing Tool
Or if you want something to download and install on your PC:
EveHQ
While I'm mot a fan of Battleclinic's ship loadouts, these are two very good tools from their stable. EveMon is another, but you won't need that for manufacturing.
