It's that time of year again, I'm going on vacation soon to soak up some sun and was thinking I might as well try this thing called reading this time around.
So far I'm thinking of actually reading I Am Legend and Fight Club but before I order those I'd like some suggestions from the lot of you.
I think those two gave you a general idea of what kind of books I'd like.
Hmm, perhaps World War Z. Now I'm giving myself tips, writing is the****utic!

I didn't think I needed to clarify but here it is, I don't need manuals on hammocks. I want suggestions on worthwhile books to read while in one.

random book suggestions? uh.. anything in particular you like reading? I mean we could start with the Art of War, Cory Doctorow has some good books out, and should be free ebooks.. |

Edited by: Malaclypse Muscaria on 15/01/2010 18:32:15 You mention "Fight Club", so I'm going to suggest a favourite author of mine that Chuck Palahniuk reminds of with his black humour, nihilism and transgressive attitude, albeit in a more subtle and refined way (and yet perhaps more disturbingly so), than the in-your-face prose Palahniuk loves to (ab)use, and who I can't help to think he's trying too hard to emulate at times: Martin Amis, specifically "Dead Babies" and "London Fields" (although you can't go wrong with any of his other books either).
Oh, and on the same line, Will Self's "My Idea Of Fun".

Consider Phlebas The Player of Games Use of Weapons State of the Art Excession Look to the Windward Inversions Matter
Alternately Banks' nonfiction is pretty good too.

Ah ffs, screw this, had gotten a long list together only to find out shipping is more than all the books combined. I'll just have another beer.

Where did you order from? I normally order from Amazon.co.uk, and shipping to Denmark usually cost 15-20ú for 20-25 books.

Ebooks ftw. Buy a kindle, you wont regret it.
Or, an ipod/iphone has a kindle app.. or stanza.. I recommend stanza, but thats another story. If you bring a laptop, there are plenty of e-reader programs out there..

not as good. if you're really into a book you'll spend hours reading it from beginning to end; and real books don't require batteries. Also, if it somehow gets wet (accidentally dropping it into a pool or water at a beach/lake) you're out a few hundred bucks versus twenty, max.

Since Amazon is out. Does anyone know of a good bookstore in Copenhagen? Preferably within a days trip from the airport.

The Road by Cormac Mccarthy is the best book I've read in quite a while. I read it straight through in one go, and it's been a long time since I've done that with a book. The way that guy uses the English language is genius.

Are there any similarities to Shakespeare? If so then he's out!

I am not 100% sure it would fit into the categories of Fight Club or I am Legend, but I will suggest Imajica by Clive Barker. I am a huge fan of his and this is my favorite by him and according to the Wiki page it is his favorite of all his titles.
Also, I just finished Consider Phlebas which was mentioned above and I really enjoyed it and look forward to other Banks novels.
