Hello, I am a new player and need to pick up a skill book in a 0.4 system. I don't want to lose my Probe or worse get podded so how much would protection from Ryddijorn to Ragnarg cost?
Thank you in advance

thy aren't. if you're in a non-npc corp thy'll leave you alone. and if anybody wants you to kill in 0.4 he will probably need tanked bs...well tanked bs.

Get a shuttle. Cheap if you lose it, probably faster than your probe anyway. If you get podded, I am sure your clone is not that expensive.

0.4 to 0.1 can be brutal to everyone, its just that noobs often don't know the tricks to avoid death.
1. Check you map for ships & pods destroyed in the last hour 2. If there are none you'll most likely be fine 3. If you jump in & there are pirates at the gate hurry up & dock & dont try to come out till the leave

no offence but not great advise, a long range sniper will kill anything possible that comes to the gate. They are not concerned with flagging or tanking so for them there will be no reason not to.

Beleive me, its not that bad :)
A lot of people leave the noobs alone, precisely because they are noobs. EVE is one of the nicest communitys out there.
As a long term resident of unsecure space I can asure you your 99.9% safe, unless you stumble into a massive gate gank
Convo me in game if you want any help to do with eve or eant to ask any Qs...im bored :)

I periodically go down to 0.1-0.4 space to go rat hunting, and often have to go through it for courier missions. Nobody bothers me, and I just keep myself alert incase somebody does start locking me (hasn't happened yet). Most people are pretty nice about it though.
And just a side note, most people won't attack unless there's something in it for them. Popping a probe is too easy, and since its a probe (and I'm assuming empty aside from the skillpack), you won't have anything valuable on board, so there isn't really a reason to shoot at you. I'd just go for it, try to fly in and out pretty quickly. --------------

Like someone said earlier in this thread, buy a shuttle. They cost between 5-10k isk so they are alot cheaper than ur probe IF u happen to run into someone that shoots u, also the shuttle is the ship that enters warp the fastest (only a pod enters faster).
While beign in a shuttle I can with almost 100% certainty say that u will be safe if ur just going from one place to another.
If this doesn't help, let me know ingame and I will get u sorted out
Nothing p1sses me off more then some id1ot pirate ganking a new player and then gloats about his uber kill

What skill was it? Also, you can always broaden your serach and look for it in a more secure system. DED in Yuali is a good station to do the most shopping in.

As a noob (IÆm not a lot wiser now) I ventured into 0.0 a lot, I got killed a lot as well and got podded a lot, but as a noob I had no skill to lose and they kept giving me a new ship (the basic one) and I set off again.
If you have less than (canÆt remember the number) skill points you donÆt loose any when you get podded. If you go in the basic ship you get a new one. (go in a shuttle though itÆs faster, if you loose it IÆll give you a refund)
If you donÆt want to play whilst you have the chance (itÆs when you spent 2 months none stop at it you have too much to loose),
What skill was it?
(don't care if you are an alt, I'll come with you, but I don't have that good protection) See me in game.

They are, I remember picking up some merdium hybrids for my first ever cruiser. I apparently bought them somewhere in 0.1. Upon arriving at the station I got blown up by two ugly a$$ pirates in battleships who tanked the sentryguns. Upon requesting 'Why?' I got the response 'Because I could.' Guess there's people like that out there. Chances of meeting them are small though. Get yourself a shuttle to pick up the skill-book and you'll be just fine.

These guys are not pirates anykind. They're just griefers(or player killers).. put it how ya wish.
Pirate is someone whos actually pirate people, asks for ransom, get victims loot, sells individual ship insurances(if ya know what I mean ) and so on..
All those PK's around are ruining real pirate's reputation. I just wish there would be some method to ban PK's.. In real life they must be really stupido people who wants to boost their small ego by being 'better' than a n0ob entering unsecure system..

Actually, most of what you consider to be 'real pirates' will also blow up new players if they accidently come near, for various reasons. A lot of new characters in n00b ships or frigates are rich players alts carrying valuables in their hold, are used to spy on ships and setups or serve as a tool to warp in a fleet at scrambling/webbing range.
So the smartest thing is to do all that you can to stay away from all sorts of pirates. If you dont have a choice in the matter, for example because they are camping a gate or station, be sure to contact them before you warp near, not after, and offer them an appropriate amount of ISK for passage. All pirates were n00bs once themselves and remember that 250k can be A LOT and accept such amounts to guarantee for safe passage.
Oh, and hey Double D , see you in game...

This is true, but when really roleplaying one shouldn't count in alts, whatever they maybe. And one shouldn't determine either if its n0ob or not. Target of opportunity is target, wheter it is a n0ob or alt. Doesen't matter.
This is just my opinion on the matter and the guideline that I will follow.

This was my second day playing, and I was making isogen runs through .3 space. I didn't realize it when I was going out, but coming back I remembered to check the map.
One of the best things you can do is make sure your autopilot settings are configured to avoid <.5 space and avoid areas where pods are being destroyed. The return trip for me was a 16-jump flight, so I made sure to check the lane for any destroyed ships over the past hour.
I pilot a Tristan-class frigate with only a mining laser, 75mm gatling rail I, and a shield booster. It's hardly a combat vessel, but no one bothered me, despite the fact I was carrying 250k ISK in isogen.

Just go to outer space.. you don't have much to lose. I lost my first ship (bantam) in orvolle after 2 days of playing. (that was back in the day when orvolle was still 0.4) And was podded by Zarquon in EC-P8R a week after that;) Was quite an experience!
