jita is the shining gem of eve, with its markets and traders there is no question that all the bankers in eve keep an eye on it, but where is the wonder full jita tower and the islands like in the real Dubai?

I did, for a long time. A lot of it is smoke and mirrors. The place is brilliant at marketing itself, but the substance is not really there.
Jita, if you like, is the trading capital of the New Eden universe. Dubai certainly is not the trading capital of Earth.

Dubai would be more like the equivalent to some smallish Amarr space trading hub or something (if that). It's a very, very tiny part of the world economy.

The Arab Emirate states are, as the above poster said, all smoke very little fire as far as business goes. They're trying to build themself into wealth rather than having wealth naturally build itself. It looks great on a postcard, but your average working-class American suburb seems to have more going on (and has a better nightlife). I was in Qatar, and the supermalls were largely empty, the stores often vacant, and the streets are very hushed and depressing.
And the place is built by debt slavery:

So yeah, minor Amarr trade hub. I vote Dresi.

Honestly I don't think it has enough capacity (if we considered scales) to be a New York or London, probably more like a Toronto or Chicago. Maybe when they boost the population limit again (ugh). -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

Edited by: destinationunreachable on 17/01/2010 16:36:39 surely, but the similarity is quiet interesting. In real life we have 2 main centres: London and NYC, then a wide gap and after that there are a lot of 2nd tier centres (HK, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, Chicago ... ) and even more local ones. In Eve we have one tier 1 centre (Jita), then maybe 3 2nd tier (Rens, Amarr, Dodixie) and then the local hubs.
It would be quiet interesting to see if the routes/distribution and traffic would be similar to RL...

IMHO Jita is more like Amsterdam than NYC...
would be interesting to know, if there are corporations that to Rothschild-style interregional arbitrage (local subsidiaries having their own stockpiles of trade goods buying/selling on orders from the corporate HQ with books being balanced - i.e. actual items being shipped between the hubs - only every few days)
