I mean i have been doing a few missions lately in wich i had to fight Caldari ships (i'm gallente). I was doing high quality level 1 missions, nothing too fancy but seen serious hits to my caldari standings. Well, that's to be expected, but on other hand, my Gallente one did not change at all. So if i understand it right, the only ways to improve standings is to do storyline missions and cosmos ones, and the storyline often involve worsening standing with someone else (especially now due to changes to Gallente storyline missions). Funny thing though, my corporate standings with corps in Caldari space did not change at all.
Isn't it a bit too biased into making players stick to a side and be barred from the rest of EVE?

So you can't enter few highsec regions, big deal? The whole New Eden is waiting you, lowsec, 0.0 regions and uncharted sleeper space!
Don't worry about it.

Not really. Like everything, it's a choice you make: do you want a high faction standing? Then it comes at the cost of being disliked by the enemy. Want to be liked by everyone? Then it comes at the cost of not having a particularly high standing with anyone. And even within these constraints, you can have a ridiculously high faction standing and still not be KOS in the opposing factions' space, if you just get your skills up. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

and every time youll need to resupply and sell your loot youll still be banned from all those zones, as you cant market from any wh... not really nice to probe an highsec exit and be instagibbed the instant you put your nose on the other side because you are kos with the faction.

If the only reason your standings with a faction turn sour is because of your good standing with an enemy faction, you standigns will never be so bad that you are KOS in empire.
If, however, you choose to do missions against other empire factions (ie kill caldari state ships) your standings can dip below -5.0 and get you kos status.
The solution is easy, decline missions where you are pitted against empire factions.

Yeah, i know. Well, we are always against another faction, it's just we generally don't care about pirate factions. But recent changes to storyline for Gallente mean any such mission is against Caldari, so i can't mend my Gallente standing (because i did some missions against them) without screwing it with over half the EVE universe... It's just too easy to hurt our standing, we can easily be hated by everyone without being liked by any (ie just do missions at random from one faction or the other and you can end up pretty low with everyone).

For example red frog freighting takes like 3 million on 10 jumps... If you have loot worth like 500 m isk, freighter service isnt problem.. Red Frog has collateral up to 1 billion ISK IIRC..
Then just fly in shuttle to trade hub and sell your stuff.
This is MMORPG, you dont have to do everything by yourself or with your alts

The standing lose with the enemy faction is always less than the gain with the faction you are working for. Negotiation will always improve the effective standing further and diplomacy will minimise the impact of the enemy faction, such that your standing with them will still remain a positive effective. Shift your mission focus away from Navy/Intelligence to the Gallente Customs and most of your missions will be against Serpentis further reducing the impact. The system is actually very balanced. It would take dedicated effort to **** off the Caldari so much they KOS you.

I sort of enjoy blowing up Amarr shps which has resulted in a -8.64 standing. It is hard work but one day I might ge it down to -10 without making me KOS to Caldari space as well.
Regarding getting instagibbed by the navies, well they will web you so warping through their space is going faster than if you had a good standing. They will not scramble you so no ship loss unless you fly AFK.

Strangely enough, doing mission for the navy is the best place to avoid direct conflict with opposing factions. Both Gallente and Caldari navi mostly (if not always) offer missions against pirates and such, unlike customs... Somebody may have messed up some settings somewhere.

When you do Missions against some Empire like Caldari and you have a line of missions then it seems that the last mission is the one who gives you bad standing. Make the first Missions and decline the last mission.

As others have already said, be sure to train up Diplomacy skills, it will boost your standings with the "enemy" faction. Train up the other social skills, at least to level 3, when you can afford to, because they will all help with increasing the rate your standings increase and also LP gains. Also, decline faction missions whenever you can.
Also, if you want to raise the standings of one faction without reducing the standings of the other faction, go visit the Sisters of Eve and crank out a bunch of missions with them to get storylines. Without getting into a very complicated discussion of the standings equations, the Sisters of Eve storylines will raise all (or most) of your major faction standings a small amount. (For example, I needed to raise my Gallente standings some, but didn't want to lower my Caldari standings any, so I did four storylines with the Sisters, and raised my Gallente about 1.2, and my Caldari went up .2)
Hope this helps.

Oh, one other way to raise your faction standings is by speaking to the Data Center agents - read this article: EVElopedia Data Centers. Be aware that each agent can only be used ONCE.
Good luck!

You can maintain good relations with all of the highsec factions relatively easily, just by declining the missions you know will hurt your standings too much, being careful with your agents (don't decline twice in a row), and by running missions for multiple factions. Pick a couple enemy corporations and stick with them. Plan ahead too.
Just like in RL, it's easier to lose your reputation in Eve than it is to keep it. But as long as you plan ahead and work hard, you'll be fine. It's up to you to decide whether or not you have bad standings. Clear Skies Day of Darkness |

Your not barred from any part of eve if you have poor standings. Faction police are slow to respond, they are nothing like concord. Gate to Gate jumps with a battlecruizer or smaller is the same as anywhere. With a indy or battleship you might need to fit the right mods to jump fast enough but ive never tried it myself. As for docking thats the same. Undocking can be tricky. You need to instajump once you undock. Best bet is to buy a shuttle at the station or undock in your pod. Once you undock look for a planet or something you can warp to. If nothing lines up, fly out to 150km set a bookmark.

Edited by: Lethalotte on 21/01/2010 13:51:25 The main problem I have while trying to be everybodies darling: I don't know how to figure out if killing a specific ship gives a hit to my standing with the faction, the ship belongs to. Yesterday I did some missions against Amarr ships, some gave -0.0 others around -0.02. Not much, it's worth doing the mission anyway I think but then there was one ship that gave -2.4%, that's really hard. I'm pretty sure which ship it was and if I'm right I can even do this mission in the future since I killed the ship after the mission was completed.
You should be able to see the possible gains/losses of a specific mission or a specific ship. Right now it's like training skills without knowing their name and hoping you got a useful one.
