Was wondering if I missed some news or something about ice. I came to market for fuel run for my pos this month and the fuel is getting ridiculously high.
Was there a ban on macros again and ccp just has not told us yet? Have too many miners moved out to 0.0 because of new opportunities? Is this just a blip or hiccup and every thing will be back to normal this week?
I still have a few days of fuel left and wanted to know what you thought about buying now or waiting.

Edited by: Lord Arbalest on 18/01/2010 17:31:42 Hulkeggedon put a temporary stall to those who partake in the 'afk ice mining' profession - and that coupled by the several parties stockpiling and manipulating the market has resulted in a few lucky (:P) parties profiting hugely from this.
Expect it to return to a reasonable rate when ice miners realise the 'higher' prices and start flooding the market and under-cutting each other.

We were buying all the HW in Jita yesterday and reselling it immediately at up to 100% markup.
Thanks for your custom.

I thought the Hulkeggedon was aimed at Hulks, which is in ore belts not ice belts. And do you really think killing a few ships mining can affect a market as big as ice products?

You didn't think too hard on this one then. Read the threads on it.

Ore can be found in large enough amounts from running missions that ore prices aren't affected too much by it. What else can you do in EVE that will give you ice products besides ice mining? Nothing!

A lot of Hulks are used to mine ice, they are almost as good as a Mackinaw. And you can use them for both - effectively mine ore and switch to ice if you need it, but the Mack is relatively bad at mining ore. Or was, my alt hasn't flown a barge for a few patches, maybe something changed.

I am happily mining ice on an alt, the macroers are all hugging each other like always.
So it has to be speculation. Even at the fullest of Hulkageddon, the ship death statistics said and say "2 ships popped in the last 24 hours".
Forgotten, secluded low sec ice belt? No, I am near Jita. - Auditing and consulting

Unless in that lightyear you go afk and come back to 6 extra units of ice!

You guys do know that if you buy up all the heavy water in Jita, all you will have is a lot of heavy water? It's not like it turns into technetium or something.

It's that "Info specialist" thread saying that ICE is projected to have shortages shortly.
The hoards of lemmings is STRONG in MD now and days, hell you don't even need to be known and a simple thread or statement like "This is going to crash/raise" is all it needs.
Here is an example. Megacyte was leveling out, still wasn't quiet on the rise, so people where talking about the propaganda thread Info Specialist posted and I said in SCC-Lounge "Ice isn't going anywhere, but Megacyte's Five day is almost leading twenty days"
To the people that really watch the market, they know what this means, to the marketing inept, it simply means that the average price over the last 5 days is almost higher then the average price over 20 days. Low and behold, I watched the Megacyte for 10 minutes and witnessed over 5 million units purchased and buy a fresh load of buy orders for another 3 million units where placed.
While the use of blind statements supported by little evidence can be fun to get what you want, anyone can do it. The problem is, this is NOT "good" marketing predictions. In fact it's hardly a prediction at all. Saying something and everyone going out and doing it because you said it, is not a prediction. Anyone that believes otherwise is sorely mistaken, and deserves what will eventually come of it, "Big financial losses".
Don't listen to the words of others. When I first joined MD, plenty of high profile trusted regulars always said the following to people when someone gave marketing information or requested it.
"Anything anyone says in here is only to serve their means by taking advantage of the marketing inept. Take any advice, speculation, or offering of help with a grain of salt, do your own research, make sure it suits YOUR needs and you'll do better then anything anyone suggests."
Truer words have never been spoken.
