Hello all,
While playing the other day it came to me that EVE with all it's politics and the build of the universe is a bit like playing in a movie :-)
Then I thought to myself - why not make a EVE - movie, or a tv-series. I think this game has a hell of lot more content and potential to make it as a movie than any movie made out of games.
I don't know if this idea has been discussed but I figured why not raise the idea here anyways.
I mean the script could be just taken out of the history the game - start from the beginning and go with how things have gone inside the eve universe. The should not be any shortage of material :-)

Yeah the setting would be great for a sci-fi series/movies. But if it is to be successful a proffesional crew needs to be hired, the current one which does the various cut scenes and trailers does not hold quality for a commercial tv series or movies.
Also in Eve the bad guys rule supreme (Goons and the other assorted asshats) and that would not be viable to sell. Most people want the good guys to succeed, not the gankers, smacktalkers, scammers and such. So using the history of the game would probably not be a good idea.

The director would most definitely **** it up. The setting/feeling of eve is simply so out of place next to all other sci-fi series out there that it would also be hard to 'sell' to people, even though it's a great concept.

ACT 1
New guy on the block jumps in an ibis gets concorded after first undock. goes to jita which is a mass of ships on his comlink he is just bombarded with random spam chatter "buy this buy that"
we fast foreward 1 year later and the guy is in his ship wondering what the hell is going on becuase the space time continum seems to be suffering from lag. and his ship is recieving damage notifications but theres nothing on his overview and the grid hasnt loaded.
Actor complains to the director that its very unrealistic for space "not to load" Director has no logs of it
ACT 2 Pilot is playing ST online > becomes star trek movie
THE END!

This idea has been discussed several times over the years. The main problem with doing eve would be the pod technology. Movies or TV shows need to have characters that the people watching can identify with. With the characters in Pod's full of goo, all you is voices.
Have a look for Clear sky's and clear skies 2. some some player made movies that are quite good. I think the guy behind it spend almost 2 years making the second one.
There was also a request on the this very form when walking in stations was first announced to have the ability to green screen the background to make it easier to make player made movies.
I personally think it would work better with a more Managa (large numbers of ships being destroyed, unfeasibly big ships and explosions all over the place)format as web shorts at least to start with. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

The problem of "pilots in pods" not being on a level that can be related to is easily solved. You don't focus on the pilot.
This is EVE. There's a whole lot more to the story than a pod pilot in their egg. Just look at the chronicles. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 20/01/2010 20:32:35 In the six plus years EVE has been running, nah, it's never been up before.
The role of me would have to be played by that metrosexual from a Thin Red Line, you know that guy wandering about, only thing that remotely resemble this face.
But as said the movie would have to be set in the universe and not focus on any existing podpilots as that would turn it to crap swifter than Boll can write a screenplay.
Ultimately though the director, whomever it will be would more likely than not just Mutant Chronicle the whole franchise and kill it in one fell swoop.
Oh and actually reading some of the replies, ffs, podpilots don't live their entire lives inside the pod, what would be the incentive for that hellish existance? Really!

Giving support for this idea.
Lol, this is actually a good idea. I would definately watch a movie made of for Eve. Would just have to make sure the graphics are the best-of-the-line, and the best-of-the-best be brought in for it.
Maybe make it like a Trilogy set. First movie could be the fall of our universe and the discovery/building up of Eve. Second one could be the entire destruction of the Eve universe after the wormhole closes before the eve gate is finished, and the rebuilding of the 4 races. The third could be present time eve, with all it's wars and everything.

This problem is easily resolved by setting the events prior to the advent of pod pilots.
Another option is to not focus the story on POD pilots but rather on more normal humans. POD pilots if they appear should be presented as rare and extremely powerful/dangerous.
You could also focus on a normal human crew operating in the new universe that is rapidly being dominated by POD piloted ships.
Remember in theory POD pilots are a minority of the human beings in EVE even in space. While the vast majority of the population is planet bound so there is plenty of space to create a dramatic show that doesn't focus on pod pilots.
Hell if you really wanted to focus on a POD piloted ship the captain could be a in a pod and focus on other members of the crew for characterization. It's not like it would be much different from movies that have an AI running their spaceships.
So POD pilots shouldn't be any sort of impediment.
