after a year from eve, i came back to a buggier game then i remembered and constant problems Sad Panda is Sad :(
The code is a bit more complex then when you left possibly eitherway I dont care how many people flame me for sayig this but the quality control for this game is really bad. There just isn't enough extensive testing given. Yeah yeah that may be the same with other games but ccp has set a higher standard in the past and has seriously dropped the ball over the last few years.
they dont charge us 30 to 40 dollars per exspansion either. if u want a game where everything is tested because they stand to make 10 mil releasing a expansion then i'm sure they will be more then happy to comply. |

I love posts like this. It means there is no shortage of morons to shoot.
Not as long as you reply with name calling I guess there arent I enjoy the game and I more then accept there needs to be downtime......thats what ccp gets an hour a day for whats worse is that today they actually had 6 hours and STILL there is trouble....perhaps we need to get new staff over there and complaining doesnt make me a moron its one of the features Im granted to have for paying for my sub. I ask only for top quality gaming and I pay their salary they should be obliged to comply and to ensure these mishaps are less. |

I'm just wondering....has CCP ever looked at their system architecture? It seems a bit odd that we live in an age where billions of transactions can be processed every minute with 99.999% uptime (NSK servers for example) and these game servers fail regularly, lag as a matter of course, and need downtime every day.
Has CCP heard of a RFP? |

whats horrible is the fact that it kept giving me and my m8's false hope of it restarting keeps giving countdown then suddenly it did not work, count down again, then freeze....
very twisted ccp.. |

May I also add that those games don't realease expansions every 6 months either and as such have time to fix the issues. CCP gets half down fixing an expansion before they release another. Sooner...or later its going to catch up with them. |

Finally. Somebody who gets it.
CCP rakes in a nice load of cash each month (as well as from GTC sales) to pay for stuff (server up-keep, network access, support *cough*, etc.). Unless the development of new content is funded by venture capital folks, our monthly tithe is paying for the expansions, i.e., we are on the installment plan.
Kudos to CCP for figuring out a way to make that business plan work -- sort of. Buggy patches (both Dominion 1.0 & 1.1) where previously working stuff is repeatedly broken gets annoying as hell and wouldn't be considered 'ok' in other software development initiatives and with their clients.

Remember that good quality assurance (QA) ultimately saves CCP money and helps their bottom line. Problems worked out in the beginning of a development life cycle are far cheaper to fix then when they are put into a live environment possibly causing server-side system instability, data issues, client side catastrophes (boot.ini?) or even missed opportunities with potential paying players.
QA activities already take place in EVE's development life cycle to one extent or another. The challenge that CCP and its player base is currently facing is that we need improved and more comprehensive QA with these releases.
Of Note: CCP has some cool looking QA positions open on their corporate site which we should all hope get filled.

Request for proposal. Maybe the game (and associated revenue stream) is large enough now to bring in professionals to design their architecture and run their data centers? I don't mean to offend any CCP employees, but in the real world.... The fact that Eve needs a downtime each day is interesting. Imagine your bank telling you they are closing ATM's for an hour each day. The software is certainly art, but the infrastructure required to run it is not. Don't be afraid to hire professional engineers and mechanics. |
