Can't we have a f.king patch without this sh.t for once? Just for a change. Or is just a forum entry check, so they count how many can get angry about that?

Last I saw him he was running furiously on one of the EVE-O server wheels, but now that the server is down, the news might not be good..

If it b0rks the server can we really call it a patch? What is it patching? A previously working server into a non-working server?
What the hell are they going to do when we top 50,000 players today?

and they can't even retain a freaking server
who cares if it looks nicer or have better tech if it doesn't work

Patches are by their nature disruptive. And for those demanding time back, take note that usually at weekends CCP "give" time back regularly by bringing the servers up before the advertised 1 hour.
Having said all that, it does seem that for an apparently less intrusive patch than many in recent times, this one is causing disproportionate levels of problems.
I blame the stealth switch to gerbils ... GIVE US BACK TEH HAMSTERS !!!

For the people that are hating on the post-patch stability; I feel your pain, but its not like they have a 40 thousand man QA team... issues are bound to happen when the server gets put under pressure. After all, its not just any old server, its a freakin supercomputer! *cough* running 7 year old code *cough* :D
but yeah, I also dont agree with the stealth switch to gerbils. They're much lazier then hamstaers imo

Rats, while not popular, are highly intelligent and motivated. They're generally larger than either hamsters or gerbils assuming the Rattus Norvegicus is used. And they have problem solving capabilities which could be useful given CCP's utter failure with the 1.1 patch. Perhaps CCP should put aside their s****ish dislike for rats.
Really? S-q-u-i-m-i-s-h is a bad word here?

I know a lot about patches, since I worked several years for a Software House. But this does not mean you have to have problems on every patch or that the users cannot blame us for doin a ****ty quality test.

You know, those that are complaining about the lack of 7/24 99.999% uptime make me chuckle. It's easy to see who understands computer systems and software and those who believe in magic.
Yes, the servers are down, and yes, they're working on it, but keep in mind that there are a million things that can bring any server to it's knees, even with fail-over systems. Hell, a router could go wonky and cause this, even one they don't own and manage, so relax, grab a beer, and think about something pleasant. They'll get it sorted.

No. Was not sucking anything. They arent payed to prevent stuff, they are paid to provide stuff.
I was simply making a point that some seem to overlook (in the interests of balance) that CCP provide more than the advertised 23/7, nothing more.
If you go back to 2003, there have been much worse experiences than this patch (boot.ini anyone?). This doesn't excuse the somewhat odd faults this patch has generated, but lets keep some perspective here.
Also, in my experience (maybe I have been lucky) but when I have had characters stuck, or reimbersement issues, they have been dealt with ok. I don't think CCP particularly exceed my expectations, but they most certainly meet them.
If your experiences in this game or others are different, feel free to air them, thats what forums are for. But please don't try to ascribe random motivations to what I post. I say it as I see it.

I think most players understand that if a router or 5 go down between the player and CCP that it's not an issue within any of the two parties' control.
Now, if the player takes a hammer to their computer and is no longer able to play then the player will most likely understand that it's his/her own fault. Likewise, if CCP deploys a patch that completely b0rks the server, well, that's pretty much CCP's fault. The magic only comes into play when the developers having coded the patch think that they can apply it without rigorous testing. Having been in support and responsible for the deployment of thousands of systems on a biannual basis one thing is certain, rigorous testing is required. Booting a newly loaded system successfully once, twice or a dozen times is not a gauge of stability.
As you know, CCP has several major CHRONIC issues with their game. Some of those issues have persisted since the game was first put online. They have so far failed to address such issues. Now we have a deployed patch causing DB issues which given that we are now 3 days for 3 crashes and has not as yet been tested under Sat/Sun peak times, I would that that might qualify as CHRONIC.
If CCP can not or does not know how to rigorously test a new patch without going live I'd say they are either unknowledgeable of modern QA techniques or just don't care. Either way, it does not bode well for their customers.
It'll be interesting to see how the new patch fairs under peak time today.
