As long as I have been playing eve I have been running Nvidia. My 8800 crapped out a few days ago and I picked up a Radeon 4850 to replace it because my chipset only supports crossfire and I plan on running dual GPU's in the near future. I have seen notes about these big white flashing dots showing up on ATI GPU's before but never paid much attention because of course I was running Nvidia. If I remember correctly I remember reading in some previous patch notes that the problem has been fixed.
Well, I defiantly have a problem with them still, particularly as they relate to asteroids. I didn go a few pages back on this board and did a google search. Lots of post talking about it, but they were all very outdated. Is this still a problem for people? If so, is there a way to fix it?
If it matters, I am running a Phenom II 550 x2 BE, MSI 790fx-GD70, Kingston HyperX DDR3 and of course the XFX 4850. The OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I have just updated the driver directly from the ATI support site and am running the latest version of the Catalyst Control Center.
Thanks

Hi,
It is not possible to have AA + HDR for us ATI card owners. Which mean you have to either disable HDR in EVE or disable AA in CCC.
But I have disabled HDR (only metalic effect + bloom reflection). Because AA give me smooth lines for all structures and ships. Which is more important to me.
So until CCP and ATI fixes this, we have to choose what functionality we want. HDR or AA.

This issue has never been fixed in most version of both the Nvidia drivers and the Catalyst drivers. When you force AA on the HDR or Bloom combination the EVE client then applys a second level of HDR or Bloom on top of it, causing the forced AA to apply itself again and so on.
The only fix is to find the correct combination of; just AA, AA+HDR, AA+Bloom or just HDR and Bloom. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

Hi, i currently have an ATi radeon 4870, and i was experiencing same sort of problems of having white flashing dots, and with mine it turned out to be an over heating issue. Where i underclock my GFX card in the evening and turn the fan speed to 35% to reduce noise i sometimes forgot to put it back up at 100% the next day when going back and using the PC.
If you are using a stock cooler you will find that ATI get stupidly hot, so just incase you havent make sure you have downloaded Catalyst Control center, then if you open it up, you will have a basic and advanced option, go to the advanced option and one of the bottom options should be for ATI overdrive, which is ATI's self overclocking tool, then enable manual fan control and set that to 100% and see if that helps with the problem at all. This is assuming that you haven't done this already.

LOL WAT?
ATI where the first and only company to support HDR + AA. They still do, all of their cards do, and NVIDIA's. The X1*00 series was the first to support it, the first NVIDIA series to support it was the 8*00.
It's just EVE's method of applying HDR/Bloom that means we cannot apply it. When you super sample the frame, it tries to smooth the edges, but since that's how EVE applies its lighting methods, you get the blobs.
Get a clue before offering advice. ---
